Hiring Bonus

We currently have a hiring bonus for all newly hired Troopers.  Troopers (lateral and new recruits) hired Fall of 2023 and Spring of 2024 are eligible for a bonus of $20k within their first year of employment.  Troopers hired in the Fall of 2024 are also eligble for a bonus - Lateral bonuses of $30k and new Trooper Recruit bonuses of $15k within their first year of employment.  Current State of Alaska employees in the Public Safety Bargaining Unit are not eligible for this incentive.

Move Reimbursement

After successfully completing the 18 week DPS Training Academy, Alaska State and Wildlife Trooper Recruits will be provided paid administrative time (five days) to travel home, move themselves to Alaska, then submit receipts of their expenses for reimbursement up to $10,000. For guidance on what is covered, see the Alaska Administrative Manual AAM 60.350.

State Housing

In many locations, the state provides subsidized state housing for troopers assigned to that area.

Take Home Car

All troopers who successfully complete their field training, will be provided a take home patrol vehicle for use during working hours. Troopers may also use their assigned patrol vehicle for personal use subject to some restrictions.
