Dirk Knehr, age 52 of Hoonah, had departed Hoonah on 10/12/09 to go deer hunting in Neka Bay and was scheduled to return on 10/13/09. On 10/19/09, at 2100 hours, a USCG helicopter and a fishing vessel from Hoonah conducted a search of the area and located Knehr uninjured in a cabin in Salt Lake Bay. Knehr stated that his skiff had broken down and he was unable to return to Hoonah. Miller was seen driving out of the DMV/ AST parking lot after having just obtained his criminal background from the AST dispatch center. While obtaining his criminal history his driving status was discussed with AST personnel. Miller was issued a summons to appear in the Juneau District court on 10-27-09 and the vehicle was released to his passenger who had a valid O/L. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kevin E. Hardy, age 41 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Hardy was a convicted sex offender whose registration was not compliant with Sex Offender Registration regulations. Hardy was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial facility where he was held on $500.00. bail. Lish, age 20, of Wasilla at a residence on Lucille Street in Wasilla for a reported disturbance. When contacted Lish provided a false name to Troopers. Investigation revealed that Lish had two outstanding arrest warrants, one for failure to satisfy conditions of probation and one for making a false report. Investigation revealed Andrew Bates, age 23 of Wasilla, had assaulted a family member, damaged approximately $100 of personal property belonging to another, and interfered with the telephone call when the victim was trying to call the police. Bates was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault 4, Interfering with a Domestic Violence Report, and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. Bates was transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial where he was remanded into custody and held on no bail. The operator of the red Ford pickup truck was later located walking down Schrock road and identified as Robert Garl Vincent, age 34 of Wasilla. Vincent was subsequently arrested for his outstanding arrest warrant for Failure to Appear on the original charge of DWLR. Vincent was additionally charged with Driving While License Revoked, Leaving the Scene of Damage only Accident and Failure to Carry or Show Proof of Insurance. Vincent was transported to and remanded at MSPT with his bail set at $1,750.00. Seatbelts were used by the occupant of the Chevrolet Impala. Damage to the Impala was estimated at $3,000. Marjanen, age 18 of Palmer stopped in the westbound lane of travel due to heavy traffic on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway near Loma Prietta St. Wiggins failed to exercise due care to avoid a collision and rear ended Marjanen's vehicle. Marjanen was transported to the MSRMC for minor injuries. Seat belts were used by all occupants involved. There was no damage to Marjanen's vehicle. Damage to Wiggins vehicle was estimated at $3,000.00. Wiggins was issued a citation for Driver's to Exercise Due care to Avoid a Collision. Investigation revealed that Larsen was on misdemeanor probation for DUI and one of her condition of probation was not to consume or possess alcohol. Larsen was contacted by AST in Ekwok and it was determined that Larsen had consumed and possessed alcohol. The criminal charge of Probation Violation will be forwarded to the Dillingham District Attorney's office. The VPSO responded and during the investigation, Zaochney attempted to cause injury to the VPSO. After a brief struggle,which caused the VPSO pain, Zaochney was arrested for Assault Fourth Degree on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest. Zaochney was remanded at the Atka Correctional facility until his arraignment. Author: JTF0 Received Thursday, October 15, 2009 11:15 AM and posted Thursday, October 15, 2009 11:12 AM D Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Fairbanks, AK Case number: 09-93168 Type: MVC-I Text: On 10-14-09, at 1631 hours, Candice Milne (19 YOA of Fairbanks) driving a 2004 Dodge Neon and David Beard (25 YOA of Fairbanks) driving a 1997 Ford F250 were involved in a Motor Vehicle Collision at the intersection of the Steese Highway and Farmers Loop. Investigation revealed Milne was bringing her vehicle to a stop in the southbound passing lane of the Steese Highway and Beard was traveling behind her. Beard was not attentive to the roadway and realized he was approaching Milne's vehicle rapidly. Beard's vehicle had a water tank and was full. Beard was unable to stop his vehicle in time and collided with Milne's vehicle and because Beard's vehicle was overloaded was a contributing factor in the collision. The vehicle Beard was driving was not registered properly and there was no insurance on the vehicle. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision. Both vehicles were totaled as a result of the collision. Milne was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital (FMH) by EMS and released after treatment. Beard also went to FMH for medical evaluation. Beard received multiple citations neither drugs or alcohol were suspected. Investigation revealed Rebecca Forrest was traveling north on University attempting to turn right onto Johansen when she failed to yield to a bicyclist in the crosswalk. Forrest struck George Flensburg, causing him to fall off his bike. Both parties were treated for minor injuries and released at the scene by University Fire Department. Forrest reported wearing her seatbelt and Flensburg was wearing a helmet. Forrest was cited for failure to yield. Text: On 10/14/2009 at 0823 hours AST responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at Badger and Repp in North Pole. AST investigation revealed Alfred Jelf, 28, of North Pole was driving on Repp Road when he tried to turn onto Badger Road without yielding to traffic. Calvin Gustfason (16 yoa of North Pole) was driving southbound on Badger Road when Jelf pulled out in front of him. Gustfason collided into the rear of Jelf's vehicle causing approximately $5000 damage to each vehicle. Investigation showed that Jelf was driving under the influence of alcohol. Jelf was arrested for DUI, failure to have motor vehicle liability insurance, and he was cited for fail to yield when making left turn. All parties were wearing seatbelts and nobody was injured. Jelf was transported and remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center. The driver was identified as Kenneth Caleb MacGregor, age 43, of Delta Junction. Investigation revealed Kenneth drove his 1975 Ford F-350 down and embankment and into several trees. The truck sustained minor damage. Kenneth was transported to the Family Medical Center where he was treated and released. The investigation is ongoing. Adams was discovered passed out behind the wheel of a GMC pickup along Tetlin Rd. Subsequent investigation revealed that Adams had a loaded rifle inside his vehicle. The rider was contacted and identified as Eric R. Chambers, 51 yoa of King Salmon. Upon contact with Chambers a strong odor of alcoholic beverages was detected. Chambers subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was placed under arrest for DUI. A computer records check revealed Chambers OL was in revoked status from a previous DUI and he was additionally charged with DWLR. Cub, Unlawful Possession & Transportation Text: On 10/11/09 at 1000 hours, it was reported to King Salmon Alaska Wildlife Troopers that a client of a registered guide had shot a sow brown bear that was accompanied by a 1 year old cub. The hunter was identified as Thomas R. Nix, age 45 of Mineral Lakes, Texas who had just departed King Salmon en route back to Texas. The Alaska Wildlife Troopers Wildlife Investigations Unit in Anchorage was immediately contacted to assist and, with help from the Anchorage Airport Police, was able to contact and detain the suspect as he was boarding his flight to Texas. Airport police and TSA put a hold order on the suspect?s luggage, which included the bear hide and skull which were later returned to Alaska and seized by Troopers. At the conclusion of the investigation Nix was issued a misdemeanor citation for taking a sow bear accompanied by a cub and was allowed to continue traveling to Texas. The rifle used to take the bear was also seized. On 10/15/09 Nix was issued an additional citation for unlawful possession and transportation of game. Arraignment for all charges is set for October 27th in Naknek Court. AK Bureau of Investigation ---------------------------------------- Location: Fairbanks Case number: 09-85143 Type: Arrest of Sexual Abuse Suspect Text: On 9/18/09, the Alaska Bureau of Investigation's Fairbanks-area Child Abuse Investigation Unit (CAIU) received a Protective Services Report from the Office of Children's Services. In the report, it was alleged that Jack E. Brown, age 60, of Ester, had sexually abused a minor. Subsequent investigation corroborated the allegations and on 10/15/09, Brown was arrested without incident. He was remanded at Fairbanks Correctional Center on charges of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the Second Degree. Additional charges are being forwarded to the District Attorney's Office for review.
