Investigation revealed that Grigory Reutov, age 63 of Trapper Creek, had died of natural causes. Comfort 1 paperwork was on file and no foul play is suspected. Next of Kin was notified and the State of Alaska Medical Examiner was also notified and Reutov's body was released to the family. Subsequent investigation revealed a 15 YOA male resident of Kodiak assaulted his mother when he pushed her, which caused her injury. Carpenter, age 82, of Delta Junction reported that several of his checks were forged and cashed at his bank. Investigation revealed John M. Bass, age 29, of Delta Junction was on third party supervision to Richard for unrelated offenses. Investigation revealed John stole two checks from Richard, forged his signature, and cashed the checks in Fairbanks. Both checks were in the amount of $400.00. Richard returned John to the Department of Corrections supervision while the new investigation was underway. John is charged with two counts of Forgery III, and two counts of Theft III. The stop was made on the Alaska Highway at mile 1407. The driver was identified as Erica C. Frenzl, age 25, of Delta Junction. Erica was arrested for DUI after failing several field sobriety tests. She was additionally issued a citation for speeding and a citation for having an open container of alcohol in the vehicle. Erica was transported to the Delta Courthouse where she was held until her arraignment. As the pickup approached a curve in the roadway at Gunnysack Creek, BATISTA-PATINO lost control when he dozed off. BATISTA-PATINO overcorrected when he felt the pickup leaving the roadway on the curve. The pickup then spun out of control across the roadway, leaving the road before the bridge guardrail. The pickup went over a small cliff sideways, then struck the river rocks and boulders as it rolled at the bottom of the ravine. The pickup came to rest in Gunnysack Creek on the passenger side. BATISTA-PATINO was wearing his seat restraints, and was uninjured during the collision. His pickup was a total loss. BATISTA-PATINO was cited for Negligent Driving for dozing off while driving. Ensuing investigation found that the driver of the vehicle, Daniel K. Smith, age 27 of Soldotna, was in possession of marijuana and other controlled substances. Smith was arrested at the scene and charged with Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 4th and 5th degrees. Smith was transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility and held without bail. Minute's later AST dispatch received 911 calls reporting that the hitchhiker was struck while in the roadway. Soldotna AST Patrol, CES and AST, Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team responded to the scene. Investigation revealed Pedro Vargas-Blanco, age 43 of Sterling, was hitchhiking in the southbound lane near milepost 88.8 of the Sterling Highway. A green, 2006 Ford F350 driven by Jacquline Payne, of Sterling, was traveling south when she saw Vargas-Blanco in her lane of travel. Payne took evasive action but struck Vargas-Blanco with the passenger's side mirror of the Ford. Vargas-Blanco was transported to Central Peninsula Hospital by CES with non-life threatening injuries and later released. The crash investigation is continuing by the Bureau of Highway Patrol, Kenai Peninsula Team. Once on scene, Bureau of Highway Patrol Officers found that the overturned vehicle had been struck by another vehicle, which had fled the scene. Investigation revealed that a vehicle driven by Hannah Kress, age 18 of Soldotna, struck a vehicle driven by Terri Burdick, age 52 of Soldotna, causing Burdick's to cross into the oncoming lane of traffic before hitting a culvert in the ditch and coming to rest on the roof of the vehicle. Two passengers in Burdick's vehicle identified as Judith Schmidt, age 65 of Kenai, and Sara Hondel, age 31 of Kenai were injured in the collision and were transported to Central Peninsula Hospital. Kress was apprehended a short while later near the Fred Meyer parking lot after she was involved in another single vehicle collision. Kress was arrested and charged with three counts of Assault 3rd degree, Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Driving Under the Influence, and Chemical Breath Test Refusal. Kress was transported to Wildwood Pretrial Facility and held without bail.
