Investigation revealed John Goodlataw, age 79 of Glennallen, and his two passengers, were traveling southbound on the Glenn Highway in Goodlataw's gray 2004 Chevrolet van when the vehicle drove onto an icy patch of highway, causing Goodlataw to lose control of the vehicle. The vehicle left the roadway where it rolled, coming to rest upside down and off the roadway. All occupants reported wearing a seat belt at the time of the collision and were transported to ANMC in Anchorage where one occupant was treated for minor injuries sustained in the collision. The vehicle damage is estimated at $5,000. Investigation revealed that Diana Shakoske, age 60, of Palmer had passed away at 7700 E. Buckboard Road, Palmer. Shakoske had died of natural causes. Comfort One Paper was on file. Next of Kin was on scene and the State Medical Examiner's Office was notified and released the body to family. No foul play is suspected. Nash said that residents of Ugashik reported this to her. On 10/24/09 Alaska State Troopers responded to Ugashik to investigate the reported burglary. Investigation continues. Author: MEE0 Received Tuesday, October 27, 2009 9:27 AM and posted Tuesday, October 27, 2009 9:43 AM Location: Ugashik Case Number: 09-95824 Type: Death Investigation Text: On 10-23-09 at 2015 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in King Salmon were notified of a death in the village of Ugashik. On 10-24-09 Troopers responded to the village to investigate. Investigation revealed that Mark Wood, age 50 of Ugashik had been found deceased approximately one mile outside of the village lying next to the roadway. Further investigation showed that Wood had been drinking at a friend's house on the evening of 10-22-09. Wood left the residence on his four-wheeler to go home wearing only a T-shirt and blue jeans. That night the weather in Ugashik was rainy and cold. The next morning Wood did not show up to work and no one had heard from him. A search was started for Wood. Wood was found later that evening lying next to his four-wheeler approximately one mile out of the village near the airport. It appears Wood became hypothermic and disorientated and had passed away from exposure. The SME was contacted and requested that Woods body be sent to Anchorage for an autopsy. The next of kin was notified. Investigation revealed that Bryan D. Hodgson, age 25, had assaulted his live-in girlfriend, age 24, at their residence in Alekangik North shore. With assistance from the Bethel Troopers and Aleknagik VPSO, Hodgson was taken into custody without incident. The victim recieved minor inuries and declined medical treatment. Hodson was transported to the Dillingham Correctional facility pending his arrignment. Investigation showed that Tallon Lundgren, age 23 of Dillingham, was operating a patient transport vehicle owned by Kanakanak Hospital. While maneuvering the vehicle to get it closer to another airplane with a medivac patient aboard, Lundgren struck a Cessna 207 owned by Freshwater Adventures of Dillingham. The C207 sustained approximately $5,000.00. damage and the transport vehicle sustained approximately $2,000.00. damage. On 10/26/09, State Troopers traveled to Akutan to investigate. Investigation revealed that Vera M. Pelkey, age 51, from Akutan, had sexually assaulted a 17 yoa juvenile male several times over the course of the last two months. In addition, Pelkey provided a Schedule III controlled substance and alcohol to the juvenile. Pelkey was arrested on one count of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance I, four counts of Sexual Assault II, four counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor II, and one count of Furnishing Alcohol to a Minor. Pelkey was transported to the Unalaska Jail, where she was held pending arraignment. Kari Fritz was last seen on 10/26/2009 at approximately 2230 hours wearing a blue jacket with a yellow sweat shirt under the jacket. Kari was also wearing blue jeans and white shoes. Kari is 63" inches tall approximately 145lbs with brown hair and brown eyes. Kari is also reported to be wearing glasses. Kari's last known location is Lyle Ave heading in a northern direction on foot. Kari is believed to be headed to North Pole to stay with friends. AST, Delta EMS, Deltana Fire, and Ft Greely Fire responded to the two vehicle collision. Investigation revealed that a 2009 Ford Fusion, driven by Steven L. DEIBERT, 47 of Seattle, was southbound on very slick roads after it had snowed. DEIBERT was negotiating the curve just north of the bridge when he lost control while attempting to apply brakes. The Ford Fusion started sliding across the center line, then struck a north bound 1998 Mercury Marquis driven by John C. ALDRIDGE, 59 of Delta Jct. Both vehicles were a total loss and were blocking the roadway. Traffic was stopped until EMS could safely remove and transport the injured drivers. Neither driver was seriously injured. DEIBERT was cited for Basic Speed / Speed Too Fast for Conditions. Both drivers were utilizing their safety restraints. Airbags in both vehicles were deployed. Investigation revealed Colleen Dodge (51 YOA, Fairbanks) was traveling north bound on the Steese Highway during snowy conditions. Her vehicle started to slide on the ice and she attempted to correct the vehicle. She crashed into the center concrete barrier separating north and south bound traffic. Dodge's 2001 Dodge Durango rode up on the barrier and the rolled onto its side in the north bound traffic lane. No injuries were reported. Sayer, age 54 of Craig, AK, regarding a previous investigation into a personal use crab pot with an illegal biodegradable escape mechanism. On 7/26/2009, Sayer's crab pot was inspected from the Patrol Vessel Enforcer. Investigation revealed Sayer was operating a personal use crab pot not utilizing a biodegradable cotton string for an escape mechanism. Sayer was issued a citation for illegal biodegradable escape mechanism on a subsistence use shrimp pot. Bail is set at $110.00, and arraignment set for 11/10/2009 in the Craig District Court. On 7/28/2009, Carl's crab pot was inspected from the Patrol Vessel Enforcer. Investigation revealed Carl was operating a subsistence crab pot not utilizing a biodegradable cotton string for an escape mechanism. Carl was issued a citation for illegal biodegradable escape mechanism on a subsistence use shrimp pot. Bail is set at $110.00, and arraignment set for 10/27/2009 in the Craig District Court. Meissner, age 42 of Wrangell and conducted an investigation in which Meissner had harvested a bull moose not meeting the legal antler requirements in GMU 1B. The bull moose Meissner harvested had a broken point one side. Meissner was issued an AUC for harvesting a broken antlered bull moose in GMU 1B. An investigation by Troopers revealed both Johnston and Whitmore, while hunting together, took ducks using shotguns that were not plugged to a three shell capacity. Bail was set for each individually at $110.00. An optional court appearance is scheduled in the Petersburg District Court for November 5th, 2009 at 1000 hours.
