B Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Wasilla Case number: 09-96866 Type: DUI / Refusal Text: On 10-28-09 at approximately 0130 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped a vehicle near mile 9 Knik Goose Bay Rd. in Wasilla for a moving violation. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Spencer Millar age 21 of Wasilla. Investigation revealed Millar was operating the vehicle while under the influence of alcohol in a designated traffic safety corridor. Millar was arrested for DUI and later refused to provide a sample of his breath for testing. Millar was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was held on $3,000.00 bail with a court approved third party. Investigation revealed that Mary Wilson, age 56 of Trapper Creek, was southbound on the Parks Highway in her 1999 Toyota Tacoma. Wilson hit a patch of black ice and lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled multiple times. Wilson was wearing a seat belt and sustained non life-threatening injuries. The vehicle was a total loss. Wilson was transported to Mat-Su Regional by Willow EMS. Investigation revealed Daniel J. Erickson, age 26, of Wasilla, was stopped at the intersection of Trunk Rd. and the Palmer-Wasilla Hwy. in his Ford F-250 when he was struck from behind by a 2009 Mitsubishi Lancer. The Mitsubishi was driven by Amos Stankiewicz, age 19, of Barrow. Both drivers were wearing safety belts and reported no injuries. Stankiewicz was issued a citation for failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision. The Ford F-250 sustained minor rear bumper damage and was driven from the scene. The Mitsubishi sustained approximately $3,000.00 worth of damage and was towed from the scene. Subsequent investigation revealed that Lorna Maresh, 49 of Eagle River, was driving southbound on the Parks Highway in her 2004 Ford pickup when she lost control of her vehicle on the icy roadway. Maresh's vehicle drove off of the West side of the highway and rolled onto its right side. Maresh was wearing her seatbelt and was not injured in the crash. Maresh's vehicle sustained approximately $5,000.00 damage and was towed from the scene. Maresh was not cited for the crash. Investigation revealed that Laurel Tyrrell, age 57 of Central, was driving her 1999, Ford pick-up northbound on the Parks Highway when she lost control on the icy roadway. Tyrrell's vehicle rolled once before coming to rest on its wheels approximately thirty-five feet off the East edge of the roadway. Trapper Creek EMS responded to the scene and transported a passenger in the vehicle to Mat-Su Regional Hospital, for non life-threatening injuries to her face. Both occupants were wearing their seatbelts and alcohol was not a factor. Damage to Tyrrell's vehicle is estimated to be over $2,000. Tyrell was not cited for the crash. Kozevnikoff pled guilty to the charge and is to report to jail at a later date to serve his time. Investigation showed Theresa K. O'kelley was driving Eastbound on Airport Way in her 2006 Chevy van near Old Airport Way going through the intersection. James Murphy was driving Westbound on Airport Way in his 2004 GMC Sierra near the same intersection in the left turning lane. Murphy turned left in front of O'kelley's van causing O'Kelley to crash into the passenger side of Murphy's vehicle. Both driver's were wearing seatbelts at the time of the collision. Murphy did not report any injuries and O'Kelley was transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for further medical evaluation. Murphy was cited and released. AST investigation revealed that the driver of a 2007 Ford F-150, Jesse Handy, age 25, of North Pole was driving north bound on the Richardson Hwy when he lost control of his vehicle. He reported wearing his seatbelt and reported no injuries. Case number: 09-95791 Type: MVC-I Text: On 10/24/09 at approx. 0230 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a motor vehicle in the ditch at Mi. 136 Dalton Hwy. Joseph Wenger, of North Pole was traveling northbound on the Dalton Hwy. in a work vehicle when debris from another truck hit his windshield. The windshield shattered and Wenger was unable to maintain control of the truck as it went into the ditch. Wenger was extricated from the vehicle by local private medics and workers. He was then transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for injuries to his chest and lower back by an emergency medical flight. He was wearing his seatbelt and later released from the hospital. Damage to Wenger's truck and trailer was extensive and approx. damage costs have yet to be determined. Alaska State Troopers responded to a four vehicle crash at Steese Hwy near Farmer's Loop Road. Melinda Norville (18 yoa of Fairbanks) was driving a 1990 Toyota SUV southbound on the Steese Hwy when she rear-ended a passenger car. The passenger car then rear-ended a 2000 Dae Woo car driven by Hayden M. Nilson (16 yoa of Fairbanks). Nilson's car rear-ended a 2008 Ford F250 driven by Dale C. Springer (46 yoa of Fairbanks). Norville's car and Springer's truck sustained minor damage. Nilson's car sustained approximately $3000 damage. Nobody was injured in the crash, all parties were wearing seat belts. The driver of the car that Norville collided into left the scene. AST is still investigating this crash.
