B Detachment ------------------------------------------------- Location: Wasilla Case number: 09-97744 Type: MVC-Non-Injury Text: On 10/30/09 at approximately 1720 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a reported two vehicle collision located near the intersection of Seward Meridian on the Palmer/Wasilla Highway, in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that Channing S. Stengrim, age 17, of Wasilla was driving east on the Palmer/Wasilla Highway in a blue 2004 Ford Ranger pick-up truck. Andrew R. Almon, age 17, of Wasilla was also driving east on the Palmer/Wasilla Highway in a white 1998 Ford F150 pick-up truck directly behind Stengrim. Stengrim slowed his vehicle down because of the traffic in front of him was stopped for the traffic light. Almon failed to notice Stengrim's vehicle in front of him slowing down, and rear ended Stengrim's pick-up. Both Almon and Stengrim were wearing their seatbelts and no injuries were reported. Investigation revealed that Ickes had two outstanding felony arrest warrants for probation violation as well as failure to comply with conditions of probation on the original charge of MICS IV. Ickes was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded into custody. Ickes was held on a combined bail of $6,500 and a court-approved third party custodian. The complainant also reported that someone had made a phone call threatening bodily harm to her cell phone. The case is under investigation. Text: On 10-30-2009 at 0326 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped on a white 1988 Ford pickup truck in the embankment at Mile Post 2 of Goldstream occupied by a male subject passed out seated behind the wheel. Investigation showed that Christopher Louis Shier, age 28 of Fairbanks, drove off the roadway and into the embankment after he fell asleep behind the wheel, and that he was intoxicated at the time. Shier told troopers he could not remember what had happened. Shier utilized his seatbelt and did not sustain any injuries. Damage to his 1988 Ford pickup truck is estimated over $2000 dollars. Shier was arrested and remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center for DUI and refusal to submit to a chemical test. No domestic dispute was discovered. A witness reported a male subject jumped from the passenger side of a moving vehicle. The subject was identified as Odin Tarka Wolf Miller 25 YOA of Fairbanks. No criminal activity was discovered, however it was determined Miller posed a danger to himself and was intoxicated. Miller was subsequently transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center for a 12 hour sleep off. There was no driver in the area, and the owner, Robert Gackstetter, 23, of Fairbanks, was not at his home and could not be located. Despite several attempts to locate him, and repeated messages left for him to contact AST, Gackstetter remained elusive. On 10/31/09, Gackstetter was located when a local cab driver called AST to report that Gackstetter was now passed out in the back of his cab, and the driver needed help in figuring out where to take Gackstetter, as he had only been given vague directions by Gackstetter before he passed out. Gackstetter was contacted by AST, and investigation showed that he had been driving when he crashed his truck several weeks earlier and that he had failed to notify AST of the crash as required by law. The truck sustained over $12,000 in damage. Gackstetter was issued a summons to appear in court for failing to immediately report a crash as required by law. Text: On 10-29-09 at approximately 1800 hours, the Southeast Alaska Cities against Drugs task force (SEACAD) completed an on going investigation of sales of methamphetamine from 9249 Gee St. in Juneau. SEACAD, with the assistance of the JPD Metro Unit, conducted three controlled buys during the month of October from Alexander K. Bearden, age 24, of Juneau. Through investigation it was learned that Bearden was attempting to illegally obtain a handgun, which led to his arrest and conclusion of the investigation. Bearden, a convicted felon, was at the time on conditions of release awaiting trial for a felony DUI. SEACAD along with the JPD Metro Unit, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and the Alaska State Troopers executed a search warrant on Bearden's residence after he purchased a hand gun from a SEACAD informant. Prior to the deal, safety measures were taken to ensure the hand gun was rendered inoperable. Bearden was arrested and remanded to Lemon Creek Correctional Center on charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III and Misconduct Involving a Weapon III. Further charges against Bearden will be referred to the Juneau District Attorney's Office.
