Church, age 22 of Haines pled guilty in the Haines District court to one count of Criminal Mischief in the 3rd degree, a class A misdemeanor. He was sentenced to 240 days in jail with all 240 suspended, placed on probation and ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution. The charge stemmed from an investigation into a report of vandalism in which a piece of heavy equipment was damaged near 22 mile of the Haines highway in June of 2009. Additional counts of Misconduct Involving a Weapon were dismissed as part of the plea agreement. On 10-15-09, at 1500, Timothy R. Miller, age 23 of Juneau was cited for Driving with a Suspended O/L and no valid auto Insurance. Miller was seen driving out of the DMV/ AST parking lot after having just obtained his criminal background from the AST dispatch center. A Klukwan resident was able to take a canoe to the other side of the river and locate several members of a bear hunting party who had been stranded when their Zodiac inflatable raft was torn to shreds by a sow and 2 cubs. The group walked up the river to Klukwan and fired warning shots to get someone's attention. The group was transported back across the river in a canoe by Klukwan residents and returned to their vehicles. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Kelly R. Ditty, age 18, of Palmer. Investigation revealed that Ditty was driving a 2008 Dodge Dakota, northbound on the Old Glenn Highway near Our Road. Ditty failed to negotiate a bend in the road due to slippery conditions and lost control of her vehicle. Ditty's vehicle went across the southbound lane of travel and hit a tree in the ditch. Ditty was wearing her seatbelt and received no injuries. Damage to her vehicle was estimated at $5,000 dollars. Investigation revealed that Brittany Kunz, age 19 of Wasilla, had been operating a black 1991 Ford Ranger northbound on the Glenn Highway when she lost control of the vehicle and hit the guardrail.
