Alaska handgun permits are generally good for 5 years. However, in 2008/09 the legislature passed HB201 into law. The law states: A permit issued under (a) of this section expires on the person's birthday in the fifth year following issuance of the permit. The department may adjust the length of an initial permit so that a permit is not issued for a period of more than five years.
The effective date of this law is October 07, 2009.
