The primary mission of the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers is to protect Alaska's Natural Resources through Wildlife Enforcement.

Alaska Wildlife Troopers also participate in the overall mission of the Department of Public Safety through enforcement of criminal laws and participation in Search and Rescue operations.  They complete the same DPS Training Academy curriculum as Alaska State Troopers, as well as an AST Field Training and Evaluation Program.

Assignment to the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers can happen in one of two ways:

1)  Begin your career as an Alaska Wildlife Trooper by declaring your preference during the hiring process after successfully passing the oral board interview hurdle in the final testing week; or

2) Begin your career as an Alaska State Trooper, then bid over to the Division of Alaska Wildlife Troopers after you have two years of seniority.
