  • April 16, 2018 – Sexual Assault Kit Initiative(SAKI) Statewide Cold Case Investigator hired with funding from the U.S. Department of Justice SAKI grant
  • March 3, 2018 – Governor convenes work group to review school safety in Alaska and make recommendations to prevent violence
  • February 5, 2018 – Statewide drug prosecutor hired to focus on large-scale drug deals fueling the opioid epidemic
  • February 1, 2018  – Governor Walker introduced bills to work on building a Safer Alaska, one focusing on addressing child abuse and neglect; the other working to increase access to rehabilitation and reentry programs
  • January 31, 2018 – DHSS submits the 1115 wavier to the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid to establish reform and improve the delivery of behavioral health services.
  • January 18, 2018 – Governor submits a package of crime bills to the State Legislature
  • January 24, 2018 – Governor and Alaska Board of Parole release updated clemency process and application
  • January 17, 2018 – Attorney General releases update to Public Safety Action Plan
  • December 15, 2017 – Governor releases FY 19 budget that prioritizes public safety, calling for $34M increase in public safety spending
  • December 8, 2017 – Governor Bill Walker and Lt. Governor Byron Mallott donate $3,500 for a new drug detection K9 that will serve Yakutat and Cordova, and help reduce the flow of illegal drugs into rural Alaska
  • November 27, 2017 – Governor Walker signs SB 54 into law to provide law enforcement with more tools
  • October 30, 2017 – Governor and Attorney General release Public Safety Action Plan
  • October 26, 2017 – Gov. Walker joined President Trump for public health emergency declaration
  • September 22, 2017 – Gov. Walker issues 4th Special Session proclamation, adding SB 54 to the call (addresses class C felonies among other reforms)
  • July 25, 2017 – Gov. Walker signed HB 159 into law relating to opioid prescriptions
  • July 9, 2017 – Gov. Walker donated $11,000 of his salary toward Wasilla PD drug dog fundraiser
  • June 19, 2017 – Gov. Walker signed SB 55 into law, which addressed procedural changes to criminal justice reform
  • April 20, 2017 – Gov. Walker announced Alaska’s receipt of $2 million in federal funds
  • March 21, 2017 – Gov. Walker signed life-saving naloxone bill into law
  • March 10, 2017 – Gov. Walker filed bill to extend disaster declaration
  • March 6, 2017 – Gov. Walker filed legislation (HB 159/SB 79) to change how opioids are prescribed & monitored
  • February 16, 2017 – Gov. Walker issued Administrative Order 283, directing state departments to prioritize resources to combat the opioid epidemic and apply for federal grants to fund prevention, treatment and enforcement
  • February 14, 2017 – Gov. Walker issued a 30-day disaster declaration to allow statewide naloxone distribution
