AK20002112Location: NikiskiType: MICS 4, MIW 4, VCOR
On January 9th, 2020 at approximately 2309 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle in Warren Avenue in Nikiski. The driver was identified as Catherine Keane, age 30 of Kenai. Investigation revealed Keane was in possession of heroin and brass knuckles. Keane was subsequently remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility for Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance 4, Misconduct Involving Weapons 4, and Violation of Conditions of Release and held without bail.

AK20002061Location: Clam GulchType: Assault 3rd, DUI, VCOR, MVC-I
On 1/9/20 at 1610 hours, Troopers responded to a single vehicle rollover at mile 123.5 of the Sterling Highway. The driver of the vehicle was identified as Francis Moesh, 29 of Kenai. An investigation showed Moesh was driving the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and he had ran another vehicle nearly off the road just prior to the crash. Moesh sustained non-life threatening injuries in the crash. Further investigation showed Moesh was on conditions of release in a separate criminal case at the time of the crash. Moesh was arrested and remanded into the Homer Jail pending arraignment.

AK20001082Location: SkwentnaType: SAR
On 01/09/2020, Helo 3 responded to a request for a welfare check on Tyson Steele, age 30, at his remote homestead approximately 20 miles outside of Skwentna. The request was made by family members who had not heard from him for several weeks. At approximately 1100, Helo 3 crew located Steele waving his arms near a makeshift shelter. An SOS signal was stamped in the snow outside. Steele was picked up and transported to Anchorage where he explained his cabin had burned down in mid-December. The fire had left him with no means of communication. He appeared to be in good health.

On 01/10/2019 at approximately 1856 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on Dilley Ave for the report of a domestic disturbance. Investigation determined 40 year old Amanda Jones of Palmer, recklessly caused physical injury to a family member. Jones was charged with one count of assault 4th degree (DV) and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where she was held on no bail.

AK20001778Location: TanacrossType: Assault III x 4
A warrant was issued for Karshekoff’s arrest on four counts of Assault III. On 1-13-19 at approximately 1622 hours, Karshekoff tuned himself in at the Tok Trooper Post. Karshekoff was taken into custody and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded into custody on $7,500.00 bail.
On 1-8-20 at approximately 1926 hours Alaska State Troopers received the report of an Assault in Tanacross. Investigation revealed that Travis Karshekoff (age 35 from Tanacross) had used a chainsaw to threaten and place family members in fear of injury. Karshekoff fled the scene prior to AST arrival. AST has been unable to locate Karshekoff. Karshekoff is being sought for four counts of Assault III. Anyone with information as to Karshekoff’s whereabouts are requested to contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 883-5111.

AK20001787Location: TanacrossType: Assault III x 2, Importation
On 1-8-20 at approximately 1936 hours Alaska State Troopers received the report of a disturbance in Tanacross. Investigation revealed that Nancy Thomas (age 60 from Tanacross) had assaulted a family member and a neighbor with knives. Thomas was also found to have brought alcohol into Tanacross. Tanacross is a local option community which has voted to ban the sale, possession, and importation of alcohol. Thomas was arrested for two counts of Assault III and for Importation of Alcohol. Thomas was arraigned in Tok and later transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where she is held on $2,500.00 bail.

AK19093380Location: NenanaType: Warrant Arrest
On 1/10/20. at 1034 hours, Nenana VPSO made contact with Lasha Whitmore age 42 of Nenana at a friends residence. Whitmore was arrested on a $500.00 dollar bench warrant without incident. Whitmore was transported to FCC. While at FCC Whitmore was remanded on additional charges on a prior DV offense. No bail was set in this matter.

On 01/10/2020 at approximately 1535 hours Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop for a seatbelt violation near Peger Road and Davis Road. The driver was identified as Jesse Kueber of Fairbanks, age 31. Investigation determined that Kueber was in violation of his conditions of release. Kueber was arrested for Violation of Conditions of Release and remanded to FCC where he is held with no bail.

On 1/10/20, Alaska Wildlife Troopers and Alaska State Park Rangers conducted a joint patrol that resulted in the arrest of Robert E Carroll Jr, 47, of Homer. Carroll was remanded to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility on charges of drug-related DUI and Theft in the 3rd Degree.

UPDATE: The officers in the shooting incident on January 7, 2020 are identified as follows:
Investigator Jack LeBlanc, Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit (SDEU) Fairbanks Narcotics Team. Investigator LeBlanc is a 12-year veteran with the Department of Public Safety.
Detective Nathan Werner, North Pole Police Department (NPPD). Detective Werner is a recent NPPD hire with 10 years of law enforcement experience. Detective Werner is also a member of the Alaska State Troopers SDEU Fairbanks Narcotics Team.
The U.S. Marshal Fugitive Task Force was working with partner agencies to serve search warrants on a property near mile post 1399 of the Alaska Highway and to take Daniel Jensen into custody on existing warrants. The remote property contained multiple structures that law enforcement officers planned to search. Upon approaching one of the structures, Jensen and another individual could be seen through a window. It was clear to approaching law enforcement that Jensen became aware of the Law Enforcement presence as Jensen retrieved a high-powered long gun. Ultimately, Investigator LeBlanc and Detective Werner discharged their service weapons. Jensen succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident. No other person sustained injuries during the incident. Investigation into the totality of circumstances is ongoing by the Alaska Bureau of Investigation. At the completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Office of Special Prosecutions for review.
UPDATE: The deceased is identified as Daniel Duane Jensen Jr., 59 of Delta Junction. Next of kin for Jensen has been notified. Law enforcement officers were in Delta Junction to apprehend Jensen on an outstanding felony warrant for multiple counts of Sexual Abuse of a Minor in the first and second degree stemming from an AST investigation.
Original Text: On 1/7/2020 at approximately 0951 hours, the U.S. Marshals’ Fugitive Task Force, comprised of members from the U.S. Marshals, the Alaska State Troopers and the Anchorage Police Department, along with the North Pole Police Department, were operating in the Delta Junction area. While attempting to contact a wanted suspect, a shooting incident occurred. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident, however the wanted suspect is deceased. The area where the incident occurred is remote with little to no communications available. The Alaska State Troopers is assuming case responsibility. Personnel from the Troopers' Alaska Bureau of Investigation (ABI) and the General Investigative Unit (GIU) are responding to conduct the investigation. The name of the deceased will be released following next of kin notification. The law enforcement officers, from the North Pole Police Department and the Alaska State Troopers, that discharged their firearms will be identified following their 72-hour mandatory administrative leave.
