AK19002659Location: KlawockType: Probation Violation
On January 11, 2019, at about 4:45PM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island contacted 30 year Hydaburg resident Jessica Montgomery during a traffic stop. The investigation resulted in Jessica being arrested for a probation violation. Jessica was remanded to the Craig Jail where she was held without bail.

AK19002624Location: KetchikanType: Assault 4 on Officer, Resisting Arrest, Warrant Arrest
On January 11, 2019, Alaska State Troopers received information that 19 year old Kailee Tavares of Ketchikan was inside an apartment near Austin Street. Subsequent investigation revealed Tavares hiding in a closet of the residence. When AST attempted to take Tavares into custody, she resisted arrest by physically struggling against Troopers efforts. Tavares was ultimately taken into custody. While being placed in the patrol vehicle, Tavares struck a Trooper in the face with her foot. Tavares was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where she was held on $20,500 bail. She is charged with the new misdemeanor offenses of Assault in the 4th Degree on a Police Officer and Resisting Arrest.

AK19002551Location: KetchikanType: Warrant Arrest
On January 11, 2019, Alaska State Troopers contacted 40 year old Sherry Whitney of Ketchikan at a residence on N. Tongass Highway. She was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for her arrest on a Petition to Revoke her Probation. Whitney was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where she was held on $20,000 bail.

AK17070166Location: Prince of WalesType: Possession of Child Pornography
On 1/9/2019, Forsberg was found guilty on 10 separate counts of possession of child pornography after a two day jury trial in Ketchikan. Each count carries a presumptive range of 2 -12 years to serve in jail, and a requirement to register as a sex offender for 15 years.
On 9/29/2017, Prince of Wales AST began an investigation into the Unlawful Exploitation of a Minor, and on-line enticement of a minor. The investigation stemmed from 15 year old female receiving explicit images via messenger. Walter Forsberg, 18 years of age from Metlakatla was interviewed and his cellular phone was seized. Ultimately, the phone was forensically examined by the Alaska Bureau of Investigations, Technical Crimes Unit and multiple images of child pornography were discovered. The images are of children between the estimated ages of 18 months – 10 years of age being sexually abused.
On 1/25/2018 a Grand Jury indicted Forsberg on 10 separate counts of Possession of Child Pornography, A.S. 11.61.127. An arrest warrant was issued for Forsberg. Later that same day, and at approximately 1925 hours, Forsberg was arrested in Metlakatla on the outstanding warrant.
Investigation into the identities of the children is ongoing with the assistance of the Federal Bureau of Investigations.

AK19001215Location: WasillaType: Death Investigation
On 1/5/2019 at approximately 1325 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a deceased female at a residence on Sage Road in Wasilla. Medics and Troopers responded. The woman, identified as Michelle Ahern, 44 of Wasilla, appears to have succumbed to Carbon Monoxide poisoning. Her body was transported to the SME's office in Anchorage for autopsy.

AK19002440Location: WasillaType: DUI
On 01/11/19 at 0102 hours, AST performed a traffic stop on a blue 2017 Chevy sedan for speeding on the Parks Highway near Lucille Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Jeremy Cubas, age 36 of Wasilla, was driving while under the influence of alcohol. Cubas was arrested for the original charge of DUI and transported to the MSPT facility in Palmer where he was released O/R.

AK19002632Location: GlennallenType: MVC-F
Update: The deceased is identified as Robin Purvis, age 59 of Gakona. Next of kin has been notified.
On 1/11/19 at 1438 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a Motor Vehicle Collision at Milepost 34 of the Tok Cutoff in Gakona involving a semi-truck and a snowmachine. Investigation revealed that a semi-truck driving northbound at Milepost 34 of the Tok cutoff struck a snowmachiner. CPR was initiated but the snowmachiner succumbed to their injuries. Efforts are underway to notify next of kin. The operator of the semi was not injured. The remains of the deceased will be transported to the State Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsy. Investigation continues.

AK19002653Location: KodiakType: DV Criminal Mischief 4, Assault 3, Assault 4, MICS 4
On January 11, 2019 at 1658 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to a domestic disturbance. AST contacted Justin Ensley, a 23 year old male of Kodiak. The investigation led to the arrest of Justin for DV Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree, Assault in the Third Degree, Assault in the Fourth Degree, and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Fourth Degree. Justin was transported to the Kodiak Jail pending arraignment.

Dispatch Text:On 01/10/19 Bethel AST received a complaint of a DV assault in Napakiak. Investigation revealed Frank Nelson, 32 yoa, of Napakiak assaulted his uncle on 01/08/19. Bethel AST requested an arrest warrant for Frank Nelson. This incident will be sent to the Bethel DAO for prosecution. Alcohol was a factor in this incident.

Dispatch Text:On 01/10/19 Bethel AST arrested Allen Willie, 33 yoa of Napakiak, on an arrest warrant for violation of condition of probation in 4BE-15-767CR. Allen was transported to YKCC in Bethel and held on $10,000.00 bail. Bethel AST also arrested a 16 yoa male from Napakiak on a bench warrant for failing to comply with conditions of his probation. He was placed at Bethel Youth Facility with no bail set.

On 01/11/2019 at 1922 hours Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received a report of a disturbance in an apartment near Geist Road. Investigation determined Kyle Titus, age 31 of Fairbanks caused physical injury to a family member with a dangerous instrument, caused physical injury to another family, and damaged property in the apartment. Titus was arrested and remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was held without bail for Assault 3rd (DV), Assault 4th (DV), and Criminal Mischief 5th (DV).

On 1/11/19 at approximately 1027 hours, Soldotna base Alaska State Troopers received a call of a disturbance on Duke Street in Nikiski. Investigation revealed Derek Ludington, age 49 of Nikiski, had assaulted an individual at a residence. Ludington was arrested for Domestic Violence Assault in the Fourth Degree. Ludington was transported and remanded to Wildwood Pretrial Facility, no bail.

On 01/05/2019, at approximately 2055 hours, Soldotna AST contacted Russell Pate (35), of Nikiski, on a traffic stop on south Miller Loop. After subsequent investigation, Pate was arrested for Driving Under the Influence and two counts of Misconduct Involving Weapons 4th degree.

On 1/10/19, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers Anchorage post, issued a citation to Jason C. Chocknok 32 YOA of Anchorage, AK. Jason was cited for failing to submit his RM583 Moose Hunt Report as required on the permit. Bail was set at $120.

AK19002340Location: WasillaType: Motor Vehicle Collision - Injury
On 1/10/2019 at approximately 1530 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at Knik Goose Bay Road and Settlers Bay Drive in Wasilla. Partial road blockage and minor injuries were reported. Investigation revealed a pickup traveling southbound collided with a sedan traveling northbound in an attempt to avoid another vehicle that was sliding. Road conditions were very icy. One driver was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Alcohol is not suspected to be a factor.

AK Bureau of Highway Patrol
AK19002538Location: HopeType: Motor Vehicle Crash - Injuries
On 01/11/19 at 1133 hours, Alaska State Troopers, Bureau of Highway Patrol, responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle rollover with injuries near mile 71.1 of the Seward Highway. The crash investigation determined Rose Eileen Smith (age 35 of Sterling, AK) was operating a mid-2000’s pickup traveling southbound. The vehicle lost traction on the ice covered pavement as Smith was negotiating a curve. Smith was unable to maintain control of the vehicle as the vehicle went off the southbound side of the highway. The vehicle struck a snow embankment and rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its tires facing northbound approximately ten feet from the roadway. The vehicle sustained damage and had to be towed from the scene. Smith was wearing a seat belt and sustained injuries. Smith was transported by ambulance to an Anchorage area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
