    Location: Sterling
    Type: Criminal Trespass

    Dispatch Text:


    On 1/15/20 AST was notified that the suspect was back on B&D Auto property at about 0658 hours and stole a car battery along with other items from vehicles in the lot.  The owners of B&D were able to obtain video that showed the suspect driving an older model red Ford Explorer.  

    On 1/20/20 at approximately 0910 hours, AST contacted a vehicle matching the one in the surveillance videos from B&D Auto, in the Fred Meyer parking lot.  AST contacted the driver identified as Derek R. Newton, 41 of Sterling, who was wearing a jacket matching the one in the surveillance photos, had a head lamp in his pocket that looked like the one in the photos, and Newton looked like the male in the surveillance photos.  Newton was arrested for Driving While license Revoked, Criminal Trespass 1 and Theft 4.  Newton was transported and Remanded to Wildwood Pre-Trial.   

    On 1/13/20 at approximately 0917 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report from the owner of B&D Auto Body Shop in Sterling advising someone was in their parking lot the night before and appeared to have tampered with at least one vehicle.  AST responded to the scene which showed the suspect attempted to get a vehicle running in order to steal it but was unsuccessful.  Video surveillance was obtained and the investigation is ongoing.  Anyone with information is encouraged to call the Alaska State Troopers at 907-262-4453.

    Type: Theft

    On 1/13/20 at approximately 1638 hours, AST received a report of a theft from a residence in Backtracker Trailer Park.  The complainant stated that their prescription medication and approximately $320 was stolen.  The investigation is ongoing.

    Type: Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 1/13/20 at 0645 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence near mile 91 Sterling Hwy in Soldotna for a report of a deceased male. Investigation revealed Wade Waddell Truesdell, age 64 of Soldotna, had died of natural causes. Peninsula Memorial responded for the body and next of kin was notified.

    Type: Warrant Arrest

      On 1-13-2020 at 2200 hours, the Soldotna AST K-9 Team contacted a female near Mile 17, Kenai Spur Highway. The female was identified as Destiny Marie Jones, 20 YOA of Homer. An APSIN check revealed Jones has an outstanding $500.00 warrant for her arrest, Felony Failure to Appear and a $300.00 Warrant for theft 3rd Degree. Jones was arrested and transported to Wildwood Pretrial where she was remanded for the Outstanding Warrants.

    Location: Palmer
    Type: Multiple Thefts from Vehicles

    Dispatch Text:

    On 01/14/2020 at approximately 0631 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a theft from vehicle at a residence on Kentucky Derby Drive in Palmer. Investigation revealed unknown suspects stole $500 of property from an unlocked vehicle. Video surveillance showed two suspects in a small compact SUV. More neighbors have called in with similar issues. Anyone with information related to this incident is urged to call Troopers at 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333. Troopers want to remind citizens to lock their vehicles and secure their valuables.

    UPDATE: On 01/15/20, Mr. Stanton died of injuries sustained in the collision. Next of kin have been notified.

    On 01/13/20 at approximately 1824 hours, Alaska State Troopers (AST) responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision at Palmer Fishhook Rd. and Buroker Ct. Investigation revealed that David Stanton, age 55 of  Palmer, was driving a 1996 Nissan truck eastbound on Palmer Fishhook Rd. Stanton's truck slid sideways into oncoming traffic. The Nissan truck entered into the westbound lane of travel and collided with a 2011 Ford F-150 truck. Stanton was not wearing a seat belt; he was ejected from his truck. The driver of the Ford F-150, Pio Victor Conttini, age 62 of Palmer, was traveling westbound on Palmer Fishhook Rd. in his lane at the time of the collision. Conttini did not report any injuries and did not need to be transported. Medics transported Stanton for treatment of what are believed to be serious injuries. Investigation continues. Stanton's next of kin was notified.

    On 1/14/2020 at approximately 0913 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of an expected Comfort One home death in the village of Iliamna. Investigation revealed Andrew Wassillie, age 72, of Iliamna had passed away in his home from natural causes. Next of kin were on scene.

    Type: Assault III x 4

    A warrant was issued for Karshekoff’s arrest on four counts of Assault III.  On 1-13-19 at approximately 1622 hours, Karshekoff tuned himself in at the Tok Trooper Post.  Karshekoff was taken into custody and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded into custody on $7,500.00 bail.

    On 1-8-20 at approximately 1926 hours Alaska State Troopers received the report of an Assault in Tanacross.  Investigation revealed that Travis Karshekoff (age 35 from Tanacross) had used a chainsaw to threaten and place family members in fear of injury.  Karshekoff fled the scene prior to AST arrival.  AST has been unable to locate Karshekoff.  Karshekoff is being sought for four counts of Assault III.  Anyone with information as to Karshekoff’s whereabouts are requested to contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 883-5111.

    On January 14, 2020 at approximately 0417 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report from a witness that the A-Frame gas station in Nenana had been broken into. AST arrived on scene shortly after the report. Subsequent investigation revealed that the ATM had been stolen from the store. Investigation is ongoing in this case.
