AK20001786Location: KetchikanType: VCOR x2, Driving Vehicle without Required Liability Insurance
On 01/08/2020 at about 2108 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI (Report Every Dangerous Driver Immediately) report on a green Subaru which was traveling northbound on North Tongass Highway and was last seen pulling into a gas station at mile of 11 of the North Tongass Highway. AST responded and located the vehicle. Investigation revealed that the driver Don Wright, age 49 of Ketchikan was violating current conditions of release set by the Ketchikan Courthouse from the original charge of DUI by operating a vehicle without required liability insurance and being in possession of drug paraphernalia. Wright was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center for VCOR x2 and Driving with No Liability Insurance. Bail set at $500.00. AST would like to thank the concerned citizen who reported the vehicle driving recklessly. SDEU and K-9 Misty assisted at the scene.

AK20001386Location: HomerType: Warrant Arrest
On 1/8/20 at about 1530 hours, Troopers arrested Hugh Cowan, 31 of Homer, on an outstanding arrest warrant for probation violation. Cowan was contacted at a residence on Brown Drive in Homer after Troopers received information that he was at the residence. Cowan was remanded into the Homer Jail where he was held pending arraignment.

AK20001615Location: WasillaType: Theft
On 1/8/20 Alaska State Troopers were informed that someone had accessed an unlocked vehicle off Sheennum Drive in Wasilla and had stolen multiple items to include an IPad, school books, and an assortment of ammunition. AK20001798Location: WasillaType: Assault in the Fourth Degree
On 01/09/2020 at approximately 0327 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance on Opal Ct in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that 55-year-old Brenda Cook, of Wasilla assaulted someone at the residence. Brenda was placed under arrest for Assault in the Fourth Degree and remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial.

AK20002005Location: WasillaType: DUI / REDDI
On 01/09/2020 at approximately 1416 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received multiple REDDI reports of a vehicle endangering traffic on the Glenn Highway. AST conducted a traffic stop of the reported vehicle at a residence in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Laura Swogger, age 41 of Anchorage, was driving under the influence. Swogger was arrested and remanded to the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and later released on her own recognizance.

AK20001791Location: FairbanksType: Vehicle Theft 1, Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, Assault 3, Promote Contraband 1, MICS 5
On 01/08/2020, at approximately 2143 hours, Fairbanks AST attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a black Chevrolet Silverado. The Silverado failed to stop, and drove recklessly throughout Fairbanks over an approximately 15 minute period. During the pursuit, the vehicle nearly struck a Fairbanks Police Officer's vehicle. Both occupants fled, and following a short track by AST K9 Team Lenox, were apprehended. Investigation led to Autumn Bailey age 23 of Fairbanks being charged with the following: Vehicle Theft 1, Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer 1, Assault 3, Promoting Contraband, and MICS 5. Bailey was remanded to FCC and is held without bail until seen by a magistrate.
The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank the Fairbanks Police Department and the University of Alaska Fairbanks Police Department for their assistance in the investigation.

AK Wildlife Troopers
AK20001795Location: FairbanksType: Drive in Violation of Instruction Permit/Welfare Check
On 01/08/2020 at approximately 2323hours, a Fairbanks-based Alaska Wildlife Trooper contacted a juvenile driving a vehicle stopped in the left lane of travel of the Richardson Highway near Mile 360. Investigation revealed the juvenile only had an Instructional Permit to drive. The juvenile was issued a summons with a mandatory court date on 01/23/2020 at 0830hours for the violation. A responsible adult relative responded for the vehicle and took possession of the vehicle and custody of the juvenile.

AK20002047Location: KenaiType: Suspicious Moose Carcass Found
On 01/09/2020 at 1400 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Soldotna Post, while on patrol, located a dead moose calf on the Escape Route near Holt Lamplight Road in Nikiski. The calf was scavenged on by eagles making it difficult to confirm a cause of death. The moose did not appear to have died from natural causes. There were no reported traffic collisions reported in the area recently. The moose did not appear to have wounds consistent with being hit by a car. On 1/3/2020 Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited Remington Keough (25YOA of Oregon) for Minimum Legal Size of Clams pursuant to the investigation. Citation carries a mandatory court appearance to be held on 2/6/2020 in the Kenai Courts.
On 5/23/2019, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Soldotna Post conducted a Commercial Clam Investigation. Pursuant to the investigation Erasmo Gutierrez Jr. (21 YOA of Milton-Freewater, Oregon), Jesus Camarena (22 YOA of Woodburn, Oregon), Eduardo Flores Rodriguez (21 YOA of Woodburn, Oregon), Victor Vargas Torres (24 YOA of Hubbard, Oregon) and Joel Amaral (55 YOA of Woodburn, Oregon) were all cited for Minimum Legal Size of Clams. Joel Amaral was also cited for Commercial Fishing – Name and Signature Required on Fish Ticket – 1st Offense. All citations issued hold a Mandatory Court Appearance to be held on 8 August 2019 in the Kenai Courts.
