AK19069879Location: KetchikanType: Explosive Detonation, Road Closure
On 10/08/2019, at approximately 1723 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received reports of an explosive blast at Mile 13 of the North Tongass Highway. AST responded to the location and found a rockslide completely blocking both lanes of travel at Mile 13. The blast was determined to have occurred when Michael Williams, age 67 of Edna Bay and owner of Williams Drilling and Blasting, was blasting rock to clear property for a residential project. The blast inadvertently caused the rockslide which covered the North Tongass Highway. DOT and North Tongass Volunteer Fire Department (NTVFD) were contacted and responded to the scene. NTVFD assisted with traffic control and DOT and good Samaritans from Ketchikan with heavy machinery assisted with clearing the large rocks and boulders from the roadway. The North Tongass Highway was shut down to one lane of travel during the clean-up. After approximately 7 hours of work, the roadway was cleared and both lanes of travel were again operational. No injuries were reported. The State Fire Marshal’s Office has been notified of this incident.

AK19069791Location: HoustonType: Burglary I, Criminal Mischief III, Criminal Trespass I, Criminal Mischief IV, Assault IV, Resisting Arrest
On 10/08/2019 at approximately 1332 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a possible burglary in progress at a residence on Mid Valley Way in Houston. Troopers contacted Bobby Sickler, age 36 of Wasilla, in one of the units that he kicked the door in. When Troopers made contact Sickler resisted arrest and assaulted AST. Further investigation revealed Sickler trespassed in another unit and caused approximately $1000 in damage to the property. Sickler was placed under arrest and transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical center and then transported to Mat-Su Pretrial where he was remanded for Burglary in the first degree, Criminal Mischief in the third degree, Criminal Trespass in the first degree, Criminal Mischief in the fourth degree, Assault in the fourth degree (x3), and Resisting Arrest and held with no bail.

AK19070084Location: WasillaType: Theft
On 10/9/2019, at approximately 1423 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a theft near N Rockside Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed multiple firearms and hunting equipment were stolen from a vehicle. Investigation is ongoing. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 745-2131 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333.

On 10/9/2019 at 0332 hours, AST received a report of a fatal collision involving 2 ATVs in the village of Larsen Bay. CPR was attempted by the other people involved in the collision and by the Health Aid with no success. Pete Muller, age 26 of Larsen Bay was pronounced deceased. NOK was notified.

AK19069910Location: FairbanksType: REDDI, Fail to Stop, DUI, CM5, FFJ
On 10/8/19 at approximately 2141 hours AST received a report of a vehicle driving in oncoming traffic on Chena Ridge Rd. AST immediately responded and located the REDDI vehicle, which failed to yield. The vehicle attempted to elude AST, driving recklessly, subsequently striking an AST vehicle. The driver was identified as Thor Odegaard, age 41, of Oregon. The investigation revealed Odegaard was driving under the influence of alcohol, providing a breath sample of 0.248. Odegaard was placed under arrest and remanded under the charges of Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Police Officer, DUI, Criminal Mischief 5, and Fugitive from Justice. Odegaard is being held without bail pending extradition to New Mexico for outstanding arrest warrants.

On 10/09/2019 at about 1605 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received a report of a disturbance at a Clarkson Drive residence in Fairbanks. Troopers responded. Investigation revealed James Mason-Olson, 23 of Fairbanks, assaulted a household member causing injury. Mason-Olson was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree (DV). He was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and held without bail.

AK19069948Location: Prince of Wales IslandType: Take Deer Closed Season
On 10/9/19, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Prince of Wales contacted Jacob Powell, 34 of Arkansas after an investigation revealed he had harvested a female deer in GMU 2 which has no open season for the taking of female deer. He was issued a summons to appear in the Prince of Wales District Court for taking a deer closed season.

AK19070117Location: KodiakType: Fail to Cancel Registration Permit
On 10/09/2019, Kodiak AWT issued two citations to Leonard Guillermo, age 35 of Anchorage, for failing to cancel his registration permits after harvesting mountain goats on 10/5/2019 and 10/6/2019 in hunt area RG480 within GMU 8. Bail is set at $170 each.
