A Detachment

    Location: Juneau
    Type: Search and Rescue

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/13/17 at about 1536 hours the Skagway Fire Department reported to Juneau based Alaska State Troopers that an Alaska Power & Telephone vessel was stuck on the rocks near the Hyder Power Plant, approximately 6 miles south of Skagway.  Lance Caldwell, 53 of Skagway, Cory Nelson, 39 of Skagway, and Jordan Frost, 23 of Skagway were identified as AP&T employees requesting assistance.   A Skagway Fire Department Search and Rescue vessel responded to the scene with 6 volunteers on board and were able to pull the 26 foot aluminum vessel off the rocks.  The AP&T vessel was able to return to Skagway under its own power escorted by the search and rescue vessel.  No one was injured and as of 1625 hours on 11/13/17 all parties are out of the field and accounted for.

    On 11/14/2017 at approximately 0900 hrs, Alaska State Troopers contacted 18 year old Kailee J. Tavares of Ketchikan at a residence near Garden Lane in Ketchikan.  Tavares was taken into custody on an outstanding arrest warrant for a Petition To Revoke her Probation.  Tavares was transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where she was held on $2,500.00 bail.

    Type: MICS III/NVOL/No Insurance/Misuse of Plates

    On November 13, 2017 at about 3:50PM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle for a license plate violation.  During the stop, troopers contacted one of the occupants, 29 year old Craig resident David Cox Jr.  Cox was subsequently arrested and transported to Craig Police Department where he was remanded.  Cox was charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance III, No Valid Operator's License, No Motor Vehicle Insurance, and Misuse of Plates.

    Type: MVC Injury

    Dispatch Text:

    On November 17, 2017 AST dispatch received a report of an injury motor vehicle accident.  Caller reported two vehicles had collided on the old Glenn Highway.   Troopers and EMS arrived on scene to assistance with injuries, process the accident, and provided scene security.  One passenger was transported as a precautionary measure.  Both vehicles received minor damage and were removed under their own power.  Cause of the accident was determined that one driver had fell asleep at the wheel and collided with the vehicle which was turning.  Drivers exchanged information and was released on the scene.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/13/2017, at approximately 1423 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a theft at a business near mile 49 of the Parks Highway, in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed someone had stolen a gumball machine valued at $150 from the entryway of the business.  Anyone with information regarding the incident is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at (907) 745-2131.

    Type: Violation of DVPO

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/13/2017 at approximately 1439 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a Violation of a DVPO near W Shearwater St Wasilla.  Investigation revealed Wayne Chulin age 27 of Wasilla sent the petitioner communications after being served a DVPO which forbid contact by direct or indirect means.  Wayne was charged with Violation of a Domestic Violation Protection Order and an arrest warrant has been requested.

    Type: Warrant Arrest

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/14/2017, Alaska State Troopers conducted a warrant arrest service in Kokhanok, Alaska. During the service Troopers contacted Robert Hester Jr, age 29 of Kokhanok. Investigation revealed Hester had two outstanding warrant for his arrest. The first warrant 3NA-15-000115CR was issued for PRTP, failure to appear ASAP. The second warrant 3NA-17-00012CR was issued for failure to maintain contact with attorney on the original charge of burglary X3, theft of a firearm and vehicle theft. Hester was subsequently arrested, transported and remanded into the King Salmon Jail without incident.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/13/2017 at approximately 1018 hours, the Alaska State Troopers Violent Offender's Unit stopped a red four-wheeler for speeding and reckless driving on 3rd Avenue in Bethel.  Investigation revealed that Gabriel Oscar Baker, 45 of Bethel, was driving under the influence and driving with a revoked driver's license.  He was arrested and remanded at YKCC without further incident.

    On 11-13-17 at 1900 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an intoxicated person in Gambell.  Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Melcher Oozevaseuk, 43 of Gambell, for probation violation.

    On 11-13-17 at 1915 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an intoxicated person in Gambell.  Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Charles Slwooko, 41 of Gambell, for probation violation.

    Location: Perryville
    Type: Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/13/17 at about 0001 hours, AST was notified of a death in the village of Perryville.  Troopers from King Salmon and Dillingham responded to Perryville via chartered aircraft the following morning.   Investigation revealed, 25 year old Jared Kaiakokonok got into an altercation with a family member.  After the altercation Kaiakokonok reportedly began hitting a window causing it to break.   Kaiakokonok died as a result of self-sustained injuries after he put his arm through a glass window causing significant blood loss.  Local health aides attempted to treat Kaiakokonok, however, he was pronounced deceased at the Village clinic.   Next of Kin has been notified.  The body was flown to King Salmon pending transport to Anchorage, and ABI has been requested to attend the autopsy.  The investigation continues.  Alcohol was a factor in the incident.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/12/17 at about 1620 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a pickup near mile 13 Funny River Road in Soldotna for speeding. While approaching the vehicle the driver attempted to switch seats with the passenger unsuccessfully.  The driver was ultimately identified as Dominic Eugene Allen, age 39, of Soldotna.  Allen was issued a mandatory court citation for driving without a valid operators license and cited for speeding and no proof of insurance before being released on scene.

    Type: Single vehicle collision with injury/Negligent Driving

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/13/17 at about 1722 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a single vehicle collision with injuries at mile 124.5 Sterling Hwy in Ninilchik. Investigation revealed Kelly Lee James, age 46, of Ninilchik, was traveling southbound on the Sterling Hwy in her 1987 Subaru station wagon when she went into the southbound ditch and struck a large driveway culvert totaling the vehicle. James and her 9 year old female passenger were transported to Central Peninsula Hospital with non life threatening injuries.  James was subsequently issued a mandatory court citation for Negligent driving.

AK Wildlife Troopers

    Type: Motor Vehicle Collision

    Dispatch Text:

    On 11/14/17, at approximately 1506 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, responded to a report of a motor vehicle collision involving a school bus on Back Loop Road near Joann Way.  Investigation revealed that a 2002 Honda CRV operated by Ashleigh Rich, age 19 of Juneau, had lost control on the icy roadway as it negotiated a bend in the road at Goat Hill.  The vehicle than struck a First Student school bus in the opposing lane.  Students were onboard the bus at the time of the accident but were not injured.  The bus received minor damage but had to be towed from the scene.  The CRV was totaled.  Rich received minor injuries from the collision and sought medical attention on her own.

    On 11/09/17, Steven Wiggins Jr. (age 26 of Washington State) and Montoya Herron (age 37 of Washington State) were arrested by the Alaska State Troopers’ Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit in Ketchikan for two counts of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree after investigation revealed they had flown from Seattle to Ketchikan in possession of approximately six ounces of methamphetamine with the intent to distribute the substance in the local area.  The local estimated street value of the methamphetamine is $133,600 if sold at the most common street distribution quantity of 0.125 grams for $100.  Wiggins and Herron were remanded at the Ketchikan Correctional Center without bail pending arraignment.  The Ketchikan International Airport Police, the Ketchikan Police Department, and the Alaska State Troopers from the Ketchikan Post assisted with the investigation.
