AK18084135Location: WasillaType: Assault 4th Degree DV
On 11/25/2018 at approximately 0100 hours, AST responded to a residence on W Shirley Ann Circle in Wasilla for a report of an assault. An investigation revealed Lottie M. Olemaun, 41 YOA of Wasilla, assaulted a family member. Lottie was arrested for Assault in the Fourth Degree and remanded into custody at Matsu Pretrial in Palmer. No bail.

AK18084172Location: WasillaType: DUI, Assault 4th degree domestic violence, Interfering with a report of domestic violence, VCOR
On 11/25/2018 at approximately 1019 hours, Alaska State Trooper received the report of a disturbance at a residence on W. Tweed Court in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Tony G. Brown age, 33, of Wasilla assaulted her girlfriend. Brown was arrested for DUI, Assault 4th degree domestic violence, Interfering with the report of a crime involving domestic violence, and VCOR. Brown was remanded to Mat-Su Pretrial with no bail.

AK18084175Location: Delta JunctionType: Criminal mischief 3rd degree
On 11-25-2018 at approximately 1117 hours, Delta Junction AST received a report that someone had driven through the fence at that Delta Junction cemetery and onto the cemetery and then left the scene. Damage to the cemetery is estimated over $1,000.00. Parts of the vehicle were left on scene and the investigation is continuing. Anyone with information leading to possible suspects are encourage to contact Delta Junction AST at 895-4800. You may remain anonymous.

AK18084215Location: Delta JunctionType: DUI
On 11-25-2018 at approximately 1545 hours, AST responded to Spriggs Ln in Delta Junction for follow up on a separate investigation. While on scene AST contacted Shawn Meek, 40 yoa of Delta Junction. While in contact, investigation determined that Meek had operated a vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Meek was placed under arrest and transported to Delta Junction AST post where Meek later provided a breath sample which revealed that he was impaired. Meek was provided with conditions of release and released on his own recognizance.

AK18084131Location: North PoleType: MVC Fatal
On 11/24/2018 at 2358 hours, AST responded to a single motor vehicle crash at Badger Rd and Peede Rd. Investigation revealed that Crystal C. Kmiec, 34 of North Pole was operating a 2008 Ford F250 when it lost traction and left the roadway, overturned into the adjacent slough and became submerged. Kmiec died as a result of the crash. Icy road conditions and speed were a major contributor to the crash. Next of kin has been notified.

AK18084191Location: SterlingType: Probation Violation
On 11-25-18 at 1230 hours the Alaska State Troopers stopped a Ford Explorer for speeding near mile 67 Sterling Highway. The driver was identified as Peter Chunak (33 YOA of Anchorage). Investigation revealed Chunak was on probation for Murder. Chunak was in violation of his probation by not having a travel permit and being in possession of alcohol. Chunak was arrested and remanded to the Wildwood Pre Trial where he was held without bail.

UPDATE: The personnel that utilized their firearm during the shooting incident on 11/22/2018 is identified as follows:
-Trooper Christopher Havens, B Detachment Mat-Su West Patrol, employed by the Alaska State Troopers since February 2012.
Update: On 11/22/2018 at approximately 1342 hours, the Palmer Police Department (PPD) was at the Palmer Train Depot and saw Cameron McCarthy, 20 of Palmer. PPD found that McCarthy had active arrest warrants. Before PPD could contact McCarthy, McCarthy ran from the Depot to Eagle Hotel. At approximately 1347 hours, PPD contacted Alaska State Troopers and requested assistance. PPD contacted McCarthy in the hotel lobby. McCarthy brandished a machete and was not cooperative with PPD. AST responded to Eagle Hotel. McCarthy, still armed, barricaded himself inside an empty room on the second floor. AST and PPD summoned a trained negotiator and a member of the crisis intervention team to continue communications with McCarthy. During negotiations, McCarthy climbed out a window onto the hotel’s sign. AST and PPD requested Fire and EMS to respond. A fire truck was parked underneath McCarthy for his safety. During negotiations less-lethal force was utilized without success. In addition to other de-escalation methods, less-lethal force utilized during this incident included taser, pepper ball and bean bag rounds. McCarthy jumped from the sign on to the fire truck and ran from the scene. PPD and AST followed McCarthy to a nearby apartment complex. McCarthy was attempting to break into an occupied unit while still armed with a machete. At approximately 1822 hours, shots were fired and McCarthy was struck. Officers on scene immediately rendered life saving measures. McCarthy was pronounced deceased on scene after being loaded into an ambulance. Next of kin for McCarthy has been notified. No law enforcement officers were injured during the incident. The personnel that utilized lethal force in the incident are on a mandatory 72 hour administrative leave. At the conclusion of the administrative leave, personnel that utilized lethal force will be identified.
Original text: On 11/22/2018 at approximately 1347 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a call for assistance from Palmer Police Department regarding an incident at the Palmer Train Depot. Troopers responded to the area and eventually encountered a subject with a large edged object. The situation ultimately resulted in shots fired at the corner of Evergreen and Dimond. The suspect was shot and succumbed to injuries. No Troopers or Palmer Police Department Officers were injured in the incident. Investigation into the totality of the circumstances is ongoing. Efforts to notify next of kin are underway.

On 11-24-18, at approximately 1920 hours, The Alaska State Troopers Bureau of Highway Patrol responded to mi. 67 of the Seward Highway for a single vehicle collision. The investigation revealed Dustin Dale Vanmeter, age 49 of Kasilof, was driving a 2012 Subaru Legacy southbound near mile 67 of the Seward Highway when he lost control of his vehicle in a heavy snowfall on slush and ice. The Subaru slid off the side of the roadway and hit the guard rail end. The driver was not injured and reported wearing his seat belt. The vehicle was totaled. No citations were issued.
