AK17079447Location: Palmer - Bodenberg LoopType: REDDI/MVC Fatal
On 11/7/17, at 0338 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision off of Bodenberg Loop involving a White Jeep Grand Cherokee. AST had received a REDDI report regarding this same vehicle approximately 30 minutes prior but had been unable to locate the vehicle. As a result of the collision the driver, 36 year old Dawn Eakon of Palmer received fatal injuries. Alcohol is believed to be a factor. Next of kin were notified by AST and the investigation is ongoing.

AK17079344Location: WasillaType: Assault 4th degree DV
On 11/06/17, at 1510 hours, AST responded to the report of disturbance at a residence on Polaris Lane, in Wasilla where people were hitting each other. Investigation revealed Kevin Slats (49) of Wasilla had assaulted a household member by hitting them in the head and causing pain. Slats was arrested and remanded to MSPT where no bail was set. Alcohol was a factor in the case.

On 11/06/2017 at approximately 0654 hours, AST responded to report of a two vehicle collision on Seldon Rd. at Terrell Dr. in Wasilla. Investigation revealed Patricia Giese, age 48 of Palmer, was driving her 2002 Dodge Durango when she turned onto Seldon Rd westbound from Terrell Dr. Giese’s vehicle was left of center in the oncoming eastbound lane of Seldon Rd, when she side swiped a 2012 Ford F250, driven by Charlene Hill, age 38 of Wasilla. Giese was transported for precautionary reasons by EMS to Matsu Regional Medical center. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts at the time of the collision.

UPDATE: On 11/15/2017 the Palmer Grand Jury returned a true bill indictment on the original charges and added Attempted Murder and Assault I DV. At the time of this release, Mitchell remained in custody and held on a $5000 plus court approved third party bail.
ORIGINAL: On 11/07/2017 at approximately 1807 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to an address on Eider Circle in Wasilla for a report of a disturbance. Investigation revealed James Mitchell, age 30 of Wasilla, intentionally and recklessly caused physical injury to a family member by means of a dangerous instrument and spit in the face of that family member. Further, Mitchell had two prior assault charges in the past 10 years. Mitchell was arrested and remanded to the custody of the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility and held without bail.

On 11-7-17 at 0048 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a domestic disturbance in Gambell. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Amos Slwooko, 33 of Gambell. Slwooko is charged with criminal mischief 5 and two counts of assault 4.

On 11-6-2017 at about 2020 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle being driven by Mark Fraley 62 yoa of Fairbanks. Mark was subsequently arrested for driving under the influence. Mark was remanded to FCC.

On November 7, 2017 at about 1946 hours, North Star Center reported Nicholas Chapman, fled the North Star Center on foot towards Fairbanks. AST responded to the area and located Nicolas’ footprints walking in to the woods about 300 yards from the North Star Center. Nicholas was found hiding in the woods and was arrested without incident. Nicholas was remanded to FCC.

AK17079670Location: FairbanksType: Assault 4
On November 07, 2017 Fairbanks Alaska State Troopers were contacted for a report of an assault on another juvenile resident at the Graf Healing Placement center. The resident ran from the center and hid in the woods for approximately thirty minutes prior to AST’s arrival. The 14 year old resident returned and per juvenile probation’s request he was remanded to Fairbanks Youth Facility FYF for assault and a juvenile probation violation.

AK17078970Location: SewardType: Warrant Arrest, NVOL
On November 4, 2017 at approximately 1927 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a grey Ford Bronco for an equipment violation at the intersection of Nash Road and Salmon Creek Road. Investigation revealed the driver, Robert Bodo, 48 YOA of Seward, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest and was driving without a valid license. Bodo was arrested on his warrant and issued a misdemeanor citation for No Valid Operators License. Bodo was then transported to Seward Jail where he was remanded and held with $50 bail.

AK17079591Location: SewardType: MVC-D, NVOL
On 11/7/17 at approximately 1329 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to mile post 3.5 of the Seward Highway for the report of a vehicle crash. Investigation revealed Rebecca Edlin, age 34 of Seward, was traveling north on the Seward Highway in a 1999 Ford Explorer. Brittany Berry, age 42 of Seward, was traveling south on the Seward Highway in a 2007 Ford Focus. Edlin made a left hand turn into a driveway and struck the side of Berry's vehicle. Both occupants reported wearing their safety belts and received no injuries. Impairment was not a factor. Edlin was issued a moving violation citation. A records check revealed Berry did not possess a driver's license. Berry was issued a Misdemeanor Citation for No Valid Operator's License and released. The vehicles were driven away from the scene of the crash.

AK Wildlife Troopers
AK17079600Location: SitkaType: Fail to Display 12” numbers, No Crew License, Employ Unlicensed Crew
On 11/7/17 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, along with National Marine Fisheries OLE, contacted Izaak Needham, age 48 of Sitka, during a commercial halibut offload from the F/V Nora C. Investigation revealed the vessel did not display 12 inch ADF&G numbers on both sides as required. The crewman on the trip Kelly Thompson, age 33 of Sitka, was also commercial fishing without a valid 2017 crew license for part of the trip. Needham was cited for failing to display 12 inch numbers and employ unlicensed crew, total bail set at $470. Thompson was cited for no crew license with bail set at $260 in the District Court at Sitka.
