AK18085117Location: KetchikanType: Burglary/Theft
UPDATE: The Alaska State Troopers and Ketchikan Police Department have been working closely together to investigate the recent string of property crimes in the Ketchikan area. On December 5, 2018, a significant lead was developed in a number of the open investigations and, as a result, a suspect was identified. Subsequent investigation by both agencies led to the arrest of Cody Peters, 32 of Ketchikan. Peters was taken into custody and transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center where he was lodged pending arraignment on the following felony level offenses: Burglary in the First Degree, Burglary in the Second Degree, Theft in the Second Degree x 3, and Misconduct Involving Weapons in the Third Degree. He was additionally charged with the misdemeanor offense of Criminal Mischief in the Fifth Degree .
Stemming from this investigation, a search warrant was obtained and served on a condo in Marine View Condominiums. A second suspect has been identified and taken into custody for an unrelated warrant. Numerous power tools and hand tools were seized per the warrant and many have been confirmed as stolen. Troopers and KPD officers will be working diligently to identify the owners of the stolen property so it can be returned to the appropriate people.

Original release: On 11-29-18 at approximately 1042 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan were notified of a theft. Investigation revealed that between 11-28-18 at 1600 hours, and 11-29-18 at 0700 hours, unknown person(s) entered a connex near mile 6 of the North Tongass Highway and removed construction equipment valued at approximately $3000.00. AK18086761Location: KakeType: Death Investigation
On 12/6/18, at about 0800 hours, the Kake Village Public Safety Officer (VPSO) received a report of a death at a 2nd Road residence. The VPSO and local EMS responded. Subsequent investigation by Juneau based Alaska State Troopers and the VPSO revealed 58 year old Milton George Kadake of Kake, passed away during the morning of 12/6/18 from natural causes. Next-of-kin and the State Medical Examiners Office (SMEO) was notified. Kadake's remains were released by the SMEO to the family.

AK18086426Location: KetchikanType: Warrant arrests
On December 5, 2018 at approximately 1320 hrs, Alaska State Troopers contacted Michael Baham, 33 of Ketchikan, at an apartment in Marine View Condominiums. Baham was taken into custody on multiple outstanding warrants for his arrest and transported to the Ketchikan Correctional Center. Baham was lodged at KCC pending arraignment for the original charges of Violating his Conditions of Release x 4 and Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance.

AK18086589Location: WasillaType: Warrant Arrest
On 12/06/2018 at approximately 0359 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Chance Gypin, age 29 of Wasilla, who was a passenger in a vehicle parked at the G&G Food Mart on Fireweed Road. Investigation revealed Gypin had a felony no bail warrant for parole violation on the original charge of Assault 3rd. Gypin was arrested and remanded to Matsu Pretrial where he was held without bail.

AK18086579Location: Big LakeType: Warrant Arrest
On 12/06/2018 at approximately 0020 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted William “Billy” Murray, age 38 of Big Lake, at a residence off of Hunter Street, Big Lake. Investigation revealed Murray had two felony warrants for his arrest. Murray was arrested and remanded to Matsu Pretrial where he was held on his warrants.

AK18086607Location: FairbanksType: Death Investigation
On 12/06/2018 at about 0815 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an unresponsive person along the Dale Road area in Fairbanks. AST and EMS responded. EMS attempted to provide life saving measures. The subject identified as William Vanderpool, 55 of Fairbanks, was pronounced deceased. Next of Kin has been notified. A local mortuary responded and took possession of the body. At this time foul play is not suspected.

On 12-6-18 at approximately 1919 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received a report of a single vehicle rollover at Chena Hot Springs and Ederhardt in Fairbanks. Investigation revealed Joseph Schweitzer, age 20 of Fairbanks, was eastbound on Chena Hot Springs in a white Ford Explorer when he lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway, struck a row of mailboxes, and overturned causing extensive damage to vehicle and mailboxes. No injuries were reported, and all parties were wearing seatbelts. Alcohol not a factor.

On 12/5/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers Prince of Wales Post issued a citation to Edwin Laity (48y/o) of Sitka, for possessing miscellaneous shellfish other than sea cucumbers, after participating in an ADF&G commercial sea cucumber fishery on the FV Yentna. He has a mandatory appearance in the Prince of Wales District

AK18084956Location: KetchikanType: Lawful gear for Dungeness crab (commercial)
On 12/6/2018, David Vest, 42 of Ketchikan, was issued a summons to court for violating the gear requirements for his commercial Dungeness crab pots. The investigation began after AWT identified gear belonging to Vest fishing in the 12 Mile Arm area with escapement rings that violated regulation. Vest was given a December court date in the District Court of Ketchikan.

On 11/28/2018, Jonathan Castor, (28 YOA), of Craig, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Ketchikan Post, for commercial fishing for Dungeness Crab in Twelve Mile Arm without a photo identification in possession. Bail is set at $310.00 in the Klawock District Court.

On 12/6/18, Bethel AWT issued a citation to Robert Kelly, 56 of Pilot Station for failing to submit a hunt harvest report for his 2017 registration caribou (RC867) permit as required by regulation. The citation carries with it a $100 fine.

On 12/06/18, the Alaska State Troopers’ Statewide Drug Enforcement Unit in Ketchikan arrested Stephanie Orr (age 30 of Ketchikan) for Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree and Conspiracy to Commit Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance in the Second Degree. Orr’s arrest came as a result of an investigation into the seizure of 26.1 gross grams of suspected heroin from Labreea Shaelyn Brown (age 20 of Washington State) of Washington State following her arrival into Ketchikan on an Alaska Airlines flight into Ketchikan on 12/03/18. The estimated street value of the heroin when sold in Ketchikan at the common street distribution quantity of $100 for 0.1 grams is $26,000. Orr was arrested and remanded at the Ketchikan Correctional Center without bail pending arraignment on 12/07/18. The Ketchikan Airport Police Department assisted with this investigation.
