AK19016288Location: Keete InletType: SAR
On March 11, 2019 at about 1023 hours, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island received a call from the United States Coast Guard in reference to an injured logger in Keete Inlet. A tree had fallen on the logger and he was believed to have suffered serious injuries. The United States Coast Guard helicopter responded from Sitka to Keete Inlet and transported the logger, who was identified as 45 year old Michael Coons of Idaho, to Ketchikan. Coons suffered serious injuries and is currently being treated in Ketchikan.

AK19016219Location: WasillaType: Death Investigation
On 03/10/19 at approximately 2240 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a male with a gunshot wound on E Shadow Circle. Investigation revealed Craig Tomlinson, age 27, of Wasilla, died of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head that appeared accidental. No foul play is suspected, alcohol and marijuana appear to have been a factor. The State Medical Examiner took responsibility of the remains. Next of Kin has been notified.

AK19014923Location: WasillaType: Assault II, Assault III, Assault IV
On 3/5/19 at approximately 1525 hours, the Alaska State Troopers, Child Abuse Investigation Unit received a report that Sam Hatfield, age 52, had strangled a child with clothing resulting in difficulty breathing. Investigation revealed that the child had injuries consistent with the disclosures. Sam Hatfield was arrested and transported to Mat-Su Pre-Trial and charged with Assault II, Assault III, and Assault IV with no bail pending arraignment.

AK19016251Location: NomeType: Search and Rescue
On March 10, 2019 at approximately 1823 Alaska State Troopers received a report of 3 persons on an ice floe that had broken off of the main ice shelf off of west beach outside of Nome and were drifting slowly out to sea. At the time, Nome Search and Rescue was already responding to a separate report of a person on a snowmobile that was believed to be injured on the east side of Cape Nome. That person was determined to be okay. Nome Search and Rescue then located John Culp Jr (age 43), James Gibson (age 33) and Phillip Rode (age 45) stranded on an ice floe and they were rescued by use of an R-44 helicopter. No one was injured.

AK19015521Location: TetlinType: Importation of Alcohol
On 3-7-19 Alaska State Troopers issued Trevor M. Joe (age 22 from Tetlin) a criminal citation to appear in court for Importation of Alcohol into a local option community after investigation revealed that Joe had imported a small amount of alcohol into the village of Tetlin. Tetlin is a local option community which has voted to ban the sale and importation of alcohol.

AK19014191Location: Anchor PointType: MVC-D
On March 2, 2019 at 1228 hours, the Alaska State Troopers (AST) received a report of a single vehicle accident near mile post 162 of the Sterling Highway. The vehicle was reported to have struck the guardrail and then overturned. AST responded and contacted driver, Iris Strongheart, age 19, of Anchor Point and passenger Ryan Nye, age 38, of Homer. Both Iris and Ryan were uninjured in the accident.

AK19016191Location: ValdezType: Fail To Report
On 3-11-19, Robert (33 YOA) and Nicole (33 YOA) Stark, of Valdez, were issued citations by the Valdez Wildlife Trooper for failing to report on game management Unit 13D caribou drawing hunt within the time period specified on the permit. Bail set at $120 on both citations.
