Alaska State Troopers Press Release of Monday, March 20, 2017

AK17017995Location: KakeType: Burglary II, Theft III, Criminal Mischief IV
On 3/19/17 at 0857 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to the report of a burglary in Kake. Investigation revealed the Kake Tribal Liquor Store had been burglarized after forced entry through the back door. Alcohol valued at $983.23 was stolen and property damaged was valued at $600.00. Two suspects have been identified and the investigation is on-going.

AK17017986Location: WasillaType: Eluding 1st/Burglary 1st/Theft 2nd x2/ Assault 3rd x2/Vehicle Theft 1st/Reckless Driving
On 3/20/17 at about 0159 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a 911 call reporting a male at a residence off Scatters Way in Wasilla threatening the occupants with a firearm. Responding Troopers observed the suspect leaving the area at a high rate of speed. A traffic stop was attempted at which point the vehicle failed to yield while reaching speeds of 104 mph. The pursuit continued for approximately 25 miles until spike strips were successfully deployed. The vehicle then came to a stop along the Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Investigation revealed the driver, identified as 28 year old Jacob Gearing, had forced his way into a residence. When the homeowner retrieved a firearm, he disarmed her, then pointed the weapon at the homeowner and another occupant. He then took the firearm with him as he fled. Further investigation revealed the vehicle was reported stolen out of Wasilla. Gearing was arrested and charged with Burglary 1st, Assault 3rd x2, Eluding 1st, Theft 2nd x2, Vehicle Theft 1st, Reckless Driving, and DVPO Violation. He was remanded to MSPT and held without bail.

AK17018178Location: WasillaType: Vehicle Theft 1, Warrant Arrest, Eluding 1st Degree,False Information, K9 Apprehension
On 03/20/17 at 2051 hours, Alaska State Troopers located a stolen vehicle driving on the roadway near the intersection of the Parks Highway at Palmer-Wasilla Highway. Troopers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle and the driver failed to yield to Troopers. A short pursuit was initiated. The driver drove the vehicle recklessly through the parking lot at Home Depot before driving through an adjacent field where the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into the woods on foot. A short foot pursuit took place and AST K9 Blazer was deployed and apprehended the driver who was later identified as Kyle Breen, age 30 of Anchorage. Breen was injured during the K9 apprehension and was transported by EMS to MSRMC for medical treatment. Once cleared by medical staff, Breen was remanded into custody and charged with Vehicle Theft 1 and Eluding 1st degree. Additionally Breen had several warrants for his arrest in the amount of $10,500. The vehicle, which was stolen out of Anchorage, was returned to the owner.

AK17017430Location: FairbanksType: Robbery/Assault/Theft
On March 17, 2017 at approximately 0100 hours, three armed men entered a residence in the Steele Creek Road area. The men held the family at gunpoint and physically assaulted two of the family members. They left the residence with property valued at approximately $3,000. The investigation is ongoing. If anyone has information about this incident, please contact the Alaska State Troopers at 451-5100.

AK17013914Location: PalmerType: Distribution and Possession of Child Pornography, Evidence Tampering
On 03/20/17, after an extraditable warrant was issued by the Palmer District Attorney’s Office, Treyvon Johnson was contacted and arrested by the Broward County Sheriff’s Office at a residence in Lauderhill, Florida. Plans are underway for his extradition back to Alaska. Investigation continues.
On 03/16/17, Treyvon Johnson, 30 yoa of Palmer, was indicted on 10 counts of distribution of child pornography, 10 counts of possession of child pornography, and 1 count of evidence tampering. A warrant was issued in the amount of $50,000 plus court approved third party custodian. The indictment stems from an ongoing investigation which started on 01/22/17.

AK16090443Location: FairbanksType: Commercial Structure Fire
On 12/16/2016, the University Fire Department responded to a report of smoke in a commercial structure, located on Ethel Stoneman Boulevard in Fairbanks, Alaska. Fire crews arrived to find fire throughout the structure, which was determined to be a total loss of approximately $1.5 million. The building was later identified as, “Building 5,” which served as the main administration and warm-up building for Ice Alaska. An investigation conducted by the Division of Fire and Life Safety determined that the fire originated in the vicinity of the mechanical room. The fire was classified as Accidental and was caused by a chimney fire associated with a fuel-oil boiler.
