AK18032082Location: PalmerType: Death Investigation
Update: The deceased has been identified as Lorin R. Ellsworth, 59 of Moses Lake, Washington. Next of kin has been notified.
On 5/14/2018 at approximately 0911 hours, dispatch received a call requesting an ambulance respond to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Central Landfill. Follow-up reports indicated that a man, a contractor baling scrap metal, was working at the landfill when he was reportedly crushed by machinery. The man was not able to be resuscitated and was declared deceased. The man’s body will be transported to the SME’s office in Anchorage for autopsy. No foul play is suspected. Efforts to notify next of kin are underway.

AK18032023Location: WasillaType: Warrant Arrest
On 5/13/18 at approximately 2158 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Courtney auman at a residence on Chrysan Cir in Wasilla. Investigation revealed she had an outstanding warrant out for her arrest. She was arrested, transported and remanded to MSPT where her bail was set at $300.

AK18032007Location: PWH & Stringfield RoadType: MVC-D
On 5/13/18, at approximately 2108 hours, AST responded to a 2-vehicle MVC on Palmer-Wasilla Highway and Stringfield Road. Investigation revealed that a 1995 Ford Truck, driven by Samuel J. Rose, 48 yoa of Wasilla, was stopped at the traffic light on PWH at Stringfield when a 1998 Ford Taurus, operated by Jonathan Coyne, 27 yoa of Wasilla, failed to stop while also traveling westbound and rear ended the truck. The crash resulted in airbag deployment on the Taurus although the occupants denied any injuries. Coyne was issued citaitons for failure to exercise due care and failure to have proof of insurance.

AK18030275Location: WasillaType: Warrant Arrest
On May 7, 2018 AST dispatch received a report of a suspicious male. The complainant stated a white male adult was randomly walking through the neighborhood and believed he was casing houses to burglarize. AST contacted the WMA and he was identified as SHANE STEPHEN MCCOURT age 38 of Wasilla. Records indicated MCCOURT was on probation for theft. AST contacted his probation officer, who stated MCCOURT was in violation of conditions of release. The probation officer requested he be remanded to Matsu pretrial on No Bail.

AK18031915Location: TuntutuliakType: Recovered Human Remains
On 5/13/2018 at approximately 1242 hours, Bethel AST was contacted regarding the discovery of human remains. The remains were located just north of the Tuntutuliak River on the Kuskokwim River. On 5/14/2018, AST responded to Tuntutuliak and took possession of the remains. The body has not been positively identified and the State Medical Examiners Office has requested the body be sent to Anchorage for identification. Investigation continues.

AK18031992Location: SoldotnaType: Violation of Conditions of Release
On 5/14/2018 at approximately 0044 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Phillip Eullean Haskins, age 35 of Nikiski, near milepost 38 Kenai Spur Road. Investigation revealed he was in violation of court ordered conditions of release for a pending domestic violence charge by consuming alcohol. He was arrested and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility. He was held with no bail pending arraignment.

On 5/13/18 at 1744 hours, Alaska State Troopers contacted Joshua Myles Plyler, age 43 of Nikiski, after he was stopped for a traffic violation. Investigation revealed Plyler has current conditions of release for a prior felony assault. One of his conditions is not to be in direct contact with a female who was a passenger in his vehicle. Plyler was arrested for Violating Conditions of Release and remanded at Wildwood pretrial without bail.

AK18031901Location: North PoleType: Sport Fishing Methods and Means
On May 13, 2018, at approximately 12 pm, Alaska Wildlife Troopers stationed in Fairbanks contacted 30 year old Fort Wainwright resident Miguel A. TORRES while he was fishing at Badger Slough in North Pole. Subsequent investigation revealed he was using a treble hook with a gap between point and shank of 1/4", which is prohibited on Badger Slough. Miguel was issued a citation with a $110 bail.

On 05/11/2018, Glen Eisenhuth 51 YOA of Gilbert Arizona, was issued a summons to Kenai District Court for making multiple false statements of residency on his Alaska sport hunting and fishing licenses, taking and transporting fish without being properly permitted, and personal use fishing without meeting Alaska residency requirements.

On 5/14/2018 at 1930 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers conducted a traffic stop at Stanley Road and Parks Highway in Wasilla on an orange 2005 Pontiac Sunfire for expired vehicle registration. Investigation revealed that the driver, Kathryn Oakes-Jette 20 YOA of Wasilla, was operating a motor vehicle with no valid operator’s license. Kathryn was issued a summons to appear in Palmer District Court.

AK18031742Location: WhittierType: Fatal Aircraft crash
Update: The Pilot has been positively identified as Brett Andrews age 31 of Anchorage by the State Medical Examiner's Office.
Update: During the morning hours of 5-13-18, DPS Helo 3 and AMRG responded to the crash site and successfully recovered the remains of the pilot. The remains have been released to the State Medical Examiner’s Office and next of kin has been notified.

On 5-12-18 at approximately 1130 hours, RCC notified AST of an ELT activation in the Whittier area. Due to weather in the area the search was hampered, however RCC and Coast Guard Helicopters were able to locate a plane crash and confirmed the sole occupant was deceased. AST Helo and members of the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group are currently working to gain access to the crash site and recover the pilot. Positive identification of the pilot has not been confirmed.
