    Type: Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5-29-18 at about 0421 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified by Cruise Line Agency of Alaska of a death aboard the cruise ship Emerald Princess while at sea.  Investigation revealed that Wendy Tordi, age 57 of Saint Cloud Florida, passed away due to medical complications on 5-28-18 at 2146 hours.  The Medical Examiners office was notified and the remains were released to the Ketchikan Mortuary.  No foul play is suspected and next of kin were present.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/28/18 at 2043 hours, VPSO's in Kake responded to a disturbance at a residence in Kake.  Investigation revealed Alana Billy, 40 of Kake, assaulted 2 family members in the residence.  Billy was arrested for 2 counts of Assault IV DV and transported to the Kake jail.  Alcohol was a factor.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/28/18 at 1906 hours, Juneau-based Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of an injured hiker on a mountain trail near Skagway.  Investigation revealed Kyle Matthews, 23 of Montana, was hiking on the AB Mountain trail when he slipped and injured his ankle.  Matthews was unable to continue hiking and was two miles from the trailhead.  Skagway Search and Rescue/Fire Department responded and transported Matthews back to the trailhead.  An ambulance was waiting at the trailhead for Matthews to provide additional medical attention.

    Type: Warrant Arrest

    Dispatch Text:

    On 05/29/2018 at approximately 0111 hours, a northbound commercial truck driver contacted Alaska State Troopers reporting a dark colored sedan was southbound on the Glenn Highway in the northbound lane.  The driver reported the vehicle made slight contact with his semi-truck and possibly lost the driver’s side mirror as a result.  Troopers located the vehicle near Sutton and contacted the driver, Ricky Justice age 53 of Anchorage.  Investigation revealed Justice had a Parole Warrant for Escape 2nd, Criminal Trespass 1st, Vehicle Theft 1st, DUI, and MIW 3rd.  Additionally, Justice had a warrant out of Anchorage for Concealment of Merchandise.  Justice was arrested and transported to MATSU Pretrial where he was held without bail.

    On 05/28/2018 at approximately 1912 hours, Alaska State Troopers were contact by a homeowner reporting two dirt bikes were stolen from his residence off Moose Park Drive, Wasilla.  The first dirt bike was a 2008 Yamaha TTR 125 that is blue and white in color and the second was a 2015 Honda CRF 150 red and white in color.  Investigation is continuing and AST is requesting anyone with information about the theft to contact Crime Stoppers at 745-3333 or AST dispatch at 352-5401.

    Update: On 5/31/18 at 1200 hours, Helo 3 with two divers on board, the Mazoch family, Alaska Wildlife Troopers / Alaska State Troopers on river boat responded to the Lake Creek area and recovered the body of William Mazoch who was stuck in a log jam.  The body was transported to the Mat-Su West Post where the State Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of his remains for further investigation.  Next of Kin has been notified. 

    On 05/28/2018, at approximately 0734 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a missing person in the area of Bulchitna Lake, near Skwentna.  It was reported that a man went to Bulchitna Lake to meet up with his neighbor, William L. Mazoch, 67, on 05/27/2018.   When the neighbor went to Mazoch’s property, Mazoch was nowhere to be found. Mazoch was known to be at his Bulchitna Lake property on 05/25/2018 and had talked to his neighbor by phone that day. An Alaska State Trooper and an Alaska Wildlife Trooper respond to Bulchitna Lake via helicopter to begin a search.  The water level on Lake Creek was extremely high and bordering on flood stage.  The river downstream of Mazoch's property was searched by an aerial search and by river boat.  Two local Fishing Guides have volunteered their watercraft for the search effort.  The search of the area was not successful.  Mazoch’s next of kin has been notified of the situation. Search efforts will continue pending weather and river conditions.

    UPDATE: The deceased has been identified as Pat Buchanan, 71 of Wasilla. Her next of kin has been notified.

    Correction: The name of the driver for the Pontiac G6 is Nancy Murphy, 48 of Wasilla.

    On 05/29/18, at approximately 1600 hours, Alaska State Troopers were notified of an MVC with injuries and the driver was not breathing on the Parks Hwy., near Vine Road, Wasilla.  AST and AWT responded to the scene, where EMS was already undertaking lifesaving efforts on the driver who had been ejected.  Scene investigation revealed a Red Pontiac G6 driven by Nancy Murphy, 48 of Wasilla, collided with the rear of a Ford Explorer on the Parks Hwy.  The collision caused the Ford to begin to overturn and the driver was ejected.   Murphy was operating with a revoked driver’s license and had a warrant for failure to appear for remand hearing with an original charge of DUI.   EMS pronounced the driver of the Ford deceased. Next of Kin has been contacted and the State Medical Examiner’s Office took possession of Buchanan.  Both vehicles were impounded.  Investigation is continuing.

    On 5/29/18, at 2201 hours, AST received a report of items stolen from a locked vehicle that was parked at Reflections Lake state recreational site along the Glenn Highway.  Investigation shows that person(s) unknown broke the passenger window of a Silver 2011 Subaru and stole a purse which contained cash and credit cards.  The theft occurred between 8:45 and 9:45 pm.  Anyone with information or who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area is asked to contact AST or Crimestoppers.

    On 5/27/18 at approximately 2045 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a domestic disturbance at a residence in Mountain Village.  Troopers responded and the investigation revealed Rex Kuzela, age 37 of Mountain Village, assaulted a family member.  Rex was arrested for two counts of Assault 4th.  Rex was transported to Yukon Kuskokwim Correctional Center where no bail was set.

    Dispatch Text:

    On May 29, 2018, at 1229 hours, The Alaska Sate Troopers investigated a reported vehicle in the ditch on the Old Richardson Highway near the Sloan St. intersection. Investigation revealed Amaka Maduabuchi, 17 YOA of Fairbanks was driving the vehicle when she became distracted and her vehicle exited the roadway. There was minor damage to the vehicle and none of the occupants of the vehicle were injured. The vehicle was towed away from the scene.

    On 5-29-18 at approximately 1037 hours Alaska State Troopers in Tok arrested Sheldon Fox Jr. (age 38 from Tok) after he was fond to be violating his conditions of release by being present at a residence the court had ordered him to stay away from.  Fox was transported to the Tok Trooper Post where he was held pending arraignment.

    On 05-29-18 at approximately 0342 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks responded to a report of a domestic violence assault at a residence in North Pole. Investigation revealed Anne Fielder, age 20 of North Pole, assaulted a family member causing injury. Fielder was arrested on one (1)  count Assault 4th Degree and remanded to FCC.

    Dispatch Text:

    On May 24, 2019 at approximately 0209 hours, AST received a report of a single vehicle rollover near mile 47.2 of the Sterling Highway.  Investigation revealed the driver James Siamani, 17 YOA of Soldotna, was driving a blue 2005 Buick Ranier northbound on the Sterling Highway.  While approaching a turn, James stated another vehicle passed him with their high beam headlights on.  James also stated he believed the vehicle was partially in his lane.  James swerved to avoid a collision, but over corrected.  James then lost control of the vehicle and crossed the center line.  James' vehicle ultimately hit the ditch and rolled one time, where it landed back on all four wheels.  The vehicle suffered disabling damage.  James was issued citations for operating a vehicle in violation of a provisional license.  All parties reported to be wearing their seatbelts.  Alcohol was not a factor.

    On May 24, 2018 at approximately 1047 hours, AST conducted a traffic stop on a green Ford Explore, for an equipment violation at the Bayside Apartments in Seward.  Investigation revealed the driver Lucas McAlary, 22 YOA of Seward, had an outstanding warrant for his arrest for the original charge of improper use of registration plates (3SW-18-71CR).  Records also indicated Lucas only has an AKID and holds no OL.  Lucas was issued citations for operating a vehicle with no valid operator’s license and operating a vehicle with expired registration.  Lucas was then arrested and transported to the Seward Jail where he was remanded and held on $50 bail.

    On 5/28/2018 at approximately 2348 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a reported domestic disturbance at a residence on Moose River Drive.  Jacob Franklin Moody Jr, age 26 of Sterling was contacted.  Investigation revealed he violated his conditions of release from a pending domestic violence assault charge by not being with his third party custodian.  Additionally, he was found to have contacted a party he was prohibited by those conditions of release from contacting.  He was arrested for two counts Violation of Conditions of Release and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility.  He was held with no bail pending arraignment.

    On 5-28-18 at 2209 hours, Seward AST received a report of a disturbance at the end of Lowell Point Road.  AST and Seward Police responded to a residence and contacted Samantha Ivanoff, age 27, of Anchorage.  Investigation revealed that Samantha was on conditions of release for a domestic violence assault.  Part of her conditions were not to consume alcohol.  Samantha had been consuming alcohol and was intoxicated.  Samantha was arrested for violating her conditions of release and remanded to Seward Jail with no bail.

    On 5-28-18 at 1504 hours, Soldotna dispatch was notified of a Comfort One expected death at a residence near Seward.  Cynthia Lee, age 61, of Seward passed away at her residence after a long term illness.  Her next of kin was on scene.

    On 2/28/18 at 1425 hours, Troopers arrested Kenneth Mayo, 40 of Ninilchik, on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  Mayo was contacted after Troopers saw him walking down the road and knew he had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The original charge on the warrant was hindering prosecution in the first degree and bail was set at $1500.  Mayo was transported and remanded into the Homer Jail.

    On 5-29-18 at 1600 hours the Alaska State Troopers received report of a female jumping into traffic on K Beach Road near Merrywood.  AST contacted Stacy Whitely (43 YOA of Soldotna) who was subsequently issued a misdemeanor citation for disorderly conduct and transported home.

    On 5-29-2018 at 0830 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded a reported domestic disturbance in the Funny River area.  Investigation revealed that Diane Britton (48 YOA of Quinhagak) assaulted a family member at the residence.  Britton was arrested and booked into the Wildwood Pre Trial Facility where she was held without bail.  Alcohol was a factor in the incident.
