    Type: Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On May 8, 2018 at about 9:50 AM, the Alaska State Troopers on Prince of Wales island responded to Hollis after receiving a report of a deceased person.  Troopers were able to identify 64 year old Monty Lewis as the deceased.  Mr. Lewis' body was sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office.  No foul play is suspected and next of kin has been notified.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/8/18 at approximately 0730 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a disturbance in Big Lake. Investigation revealed Cody Schaeffer, age 21 of Big Lake had assaulted a household member. Investigation further revealed Schaeffer was in violation of conditions of release for a previous DUI charge from 5/6/18. Schaeffer was arrested and transported to MSPT where he was held on no bail.

    Type: Vehicle Theft

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/8/18 at approximately 1415 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a theft off of Machen Road in Wasilla. Investigation revealed that a black 16 foot utility trailer (plate 4396RR) had been left in area overnight with a flat tire. When the owner returned the next day the trailer was gone.     Type: Driving Under the Influence

    Dispatch Text:

    On 05/07/2018 at approximately 2112 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1993 Jeep Cherokee for several violations near mile post 130 of the Parks Highway in the Chulitna area. An investigation revealed the driver, Jason Aaron Mccaleb, age 45 of Palmer, was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol. Mccaleb was arrested for DUI, transported and remanded at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer.

    On 5/7/18 at approximately 0844 hours Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of a theft from a business off of Big Lake Road. Investigation revealed that miscellaneous hardware and tools valued at approximately $300 had been taken from the area.     On 05/07/2018 at 1207 hours, AST dispatch received a report three ATVs that were stolen from a yard on Roy Road in Wasilla.  Troopers responded to investigate.  Investigation shows that a white Honda XR100 youth dirt bike, a 50 cc yellow Suzuki youth dirt bike and a 50 cc yellow Alpha Sport youth four wheeler were taken from the side of the victim’s house in the yard sometime between Saturday May 5th at noon and today at 1115.  The investigation is ongoing at this time.

    Location: Dutch Harbor
    Type: Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/2/2018, a death was reported on the F/V Ocean Hunter, a 95 foot longline trawler in the Bering Sea.  The deceased person is Christopher O’Callaghan, age 55 of Kodiak, AK.   O’Callaghan was on the deck while the vessel was tied off to another vessel in the open sea, transferring fish.  A slack line suddenly went taut, striking O’Callaghan on the chest, causing bruising and internal injuries, resulting in his death.   The incident was witnessed by several crewmembers.

    Next of Kin have been notified.  Christopher O’Callaghan’s body was transported to Dutch Harbor and then to the State Medical Examiner at their request.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/6/2018 at 1312 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of an assault that had occurred at 3583 Sharatin Road in Kodiak. Investigation revealed that Beauford Nelms, age 26 of Kodiak had assaulted a 22 year old female. Nelms was located and arrested for the assault. Nelms was remanded to the Kodiak Jail and was held without bail.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/8/2018 the Alaska State Troopers investigated a report of a theft from the AVIS car rental shop at 5220 Old Tom Stiles Road in Kodiak. AVIS employees reported that a hydraulic floor jack and two jack stands were stolen sometime between 5/2/18 and 5/3/18. The value of the items was estimated to be approximately $400. The investigation continues.

    Location: Kodiak
    Type: Vehicle Theft 1

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/7/2018, the Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak received a report of a theft from a storage unit at 11967 South Russian Creek Road. Gerald Buckey, age 30 of Kodiak reported that his storage unit had been broken into sometime in the last several weeks and that his 125 cc dirt bike had been stolen. Investigation revealed the lock had been cut off the storage unit in order to gain entry. The motorcycle was described as a SSR "pit bike" that was white and black in color. The replacement cost of the motorcycle was said to be $1900. Investigation continues. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak at 486-4121.

    On 5/6/18 at 0900 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a property located near mile 16 Kenai Spur Highway in Nikiski for a report of individuals stealing items. Troopers were unable to locate the vehicle. On 5/7/18 at 1305 hours, the suspect vehicle was located and contact was made with Kobie Tylor Talbott, age 24 of Kasilof. Subsequent investigation led to the arrest of Talbott on charges of Theft 2nd degree, Criminal Trespass 1st degree, and a Probation Violation. Talbott was transported and remanded at Wildwood pretrial with no bail.

    On 5/6/18 at 1812 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of damage caused at the restroom facility located on the Tsalteshi Trail system in Soldotna. Investigation revealed suspect(s) spray painted the door, inside wall, and wall bricks. They also dropped bricks into the holding tank. The damage is estimated under $750. Anyone with information specific to this case is urged to contact Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna at 262-4453.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 5/5/2018 at approximately 2139 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a two vehicle collision near milepost 160.5 Sterling Highway.  Investigation revealed Casey Eamer, age 22 of Chugiak, was driving northbound in a gray 2012 Chevrolet pickup when he turned left in front of a southbound green 2001 Jaguar car driven by Wyatt Harshfield, age 20 of Ninilchik.  Both vehicles sustained substantial damage and were disabled.  Eamer reported no injuries.  He reported wearing his seatbelt.  His passenger had minor, non lifethreatening injury.  Harshfield was transported to a hospital for treatment of serious, but non life-threatening injury.  His passenger had minor, but non lifethreatening injury as well.  Harshfield was not wearing a seatbelt.  Alcohol was not a factor.  Eamer was issued a minor offense citation for Failure to Yield when Turning Left.  Harshfield was issued a minor offense citation for Fail to Wear Seatbelt.

    On 5/6/18 the Alaska Wildlife Troopers cited David Price, (44) of Ketchikan, for retaining three, personal use taken, Dungeness crab that were not of legal size.  This violation has a set bail of $170 in the First Judicial District Court in Ketchikan.
