    Dispatch Text:

    On 06/12/2018 at approximately 2158 hours, the Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2010 Nissan Maxima for a moving violation near mile 115 of the Parks Highway in Trapper Creek. An investigation revealed the driver, James Lyle Compton, age 23 of Palmer, was operating the vehicle under the influence of alcohol and was in violation of his conditions of release from a previous arrest. Compton was also found to have an active warrant for his arrest for failure for appear to arraignment for the original charges of MIW 4 and MIW 5. Compton was arrested, transported and remanded at the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer where he was held on $750.00 bail.

    On 06/12/2018 at approximately 1211 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a burglary at a cabin in the Skwentna area. Investigation revealed someone had gained access to the residence by force and stole several items. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Alaska State Troopers at 352-5401 or Crime Stoppers at 745-3333. This incident is still under investigation.

    Dispatch Text:

    06/13/2018, at approximately 0056 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 2011 Ford Taurus at mile 41 of the Glenn Highway in Palmer. Investigation revealed the driver Juan Valdez, age 39 of Anchorage, had a warrant for $4000 fail to comply for Felony DUI. Valdez was arrested and remanded to Mat-Su Pre-trial where he was held on $2500 corporate and $1500 cash bail.

    On 6/12/18 at approximately 1818 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a report of property damage on Meridian Park Lp in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed unknown person(s) broke the front driver’s side window of a vehicle as it sat in a parking lot.  Anyone with information regarding this crime is asked to contact AST at 745-2131.

    On 6/13/18 at approximately 0050 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a reported missing juvenile in the Settler’s Bay area of Wasilla.  Investigation revealed a 14 year old minor left their home at around 2145 hours the prior evening and had not returned.  While investigating, Troopers were notified the minor returned home at approximately 0415 hours safe and unharmed.

    Location: Palmer
    Type: Burglary 1st degree, Burglary 2nd degree, Theft 4th, Criminal Trespass 1st degree and Violation of Release

    Dispatch Text:

    On 6-13-18 at about 0810 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a burglary in progress at a residence on the Palmer Wasilla Highway in Palmer. Troopers responded and contacted the suspect still carrying an item taken from the home. The suspect was identified as 27 year old Kotzebue resident Christian Harris. Investigation revealed Harris entered the home and was confronted by the home owner as he was taking items from the home and garage. Total estimated value of items was placed at $70. Harris was arrested on the charges of Burglary 1st degree, Burglary 2nd degree, Theft 4th, Criminal Trespass 1st degree and Violation of Condition of Release. Harris was transported and remanded to the MSPT facility with bail set at no bail.

    Update: The surviving pilot has been identified as Bruce Markwood, 53 of Anchorage.

    Update: Further investigation revealed the aircraft that crashed near the mouth of the Big Susitna River was a Cessna 207. The pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft was identified as 56 year old James Poelman of Wasilla. RCC located the deceased pilot at the collision scene. NTSB and the SME were notified. Poelman's body was recovered and turned over to the SME. Next of kin have been notified. The pilot of the aircraft that made an emergency landing at Lake Hood is reportedly in good condition. Investigation into the cause and circumstances of the crash are ongoing.

    Original: On 6/13/2018 at approximately 1213 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a midair collision in the Mat-Su Valley. A wreckage was located a short time later in the water near the mouth of the Susitna River and it was reported to AST that a plane made an emergency landing at the Lake Hood airport in Anchorage at approximately 1255 hours. That plane had damage to its landing gear. Search and rescue assets have been launched and the NTSB has been notified. It is unknown how many people were on board either aircraft. The incident is ongoing, updates to follow.

    On 06/13/2018 at approximately 0616 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a hit and run in the area of Pittman Rd. and Meadow Lakes Loop. Investigation revealed a vehicle hit a power pole then fled the scene. The vehicle was abandoned prior to Trooper arrival.

    On 06/13/2018 at approximately 1014 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a theft on the area of Vadla Rd. in Big Lake. The victim reported a 16' canoe had been taken from their property sometime in the past two weeks. The estimated value of the canoe is $400.00.

    On 6/12/2018 at approximately 2221 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a male walking in the middle of the Parks Highway near Vine Road.  Further investigation revealed that Carl Adams, age 55 of Wasilla, had two outstanding warrants for his arrest, for Failure to Appear.  Adams was arrested, transported and remanded to MSPT where he is being held on $250 bail.

    Type: Furnishing Alcohol to Persons Under 21 - Felony X 3

    On 06/10/18 approximately 1100 hrs., State Troopers in Togiak received a report of three under age females who had been given alcohol by an adult in Togiak.  Investigation revealed that Roy C. Kasak, age 54, of Togiak had provided alcohol to two juvenile females ages 15 and 16, and another female who is 20 yoa.  A warrant was requested, issued and served on Kasak.  Kasak was arrested on three counts of Furnishing Alcohol to Persons Under 21, which are felonies, as they occurred in a local option community prohibiting possession of alcohol.  Kasak was transported to the Dillingham Jail where he was lodged on $1,000.00 bail.

    On 06/13/2018 Alaska State Troopers received a report of a Burglary and an Assault involving a knife. Investigation revealed Benjamin T. Andrews, age 49 of Saint Michael, unlawfully entered the home of another and threatened one occupant of the house with a knife. Andrews was subsequently arrested and remanded to the Saint Michael jail where he was held on $1,500 bail.

    On 6-10-18 around 1200 hours, the Aniak based Alaska State Troopers received a call from Ann Short, 53 years old of Grayling, reporting the Grayling City office was burglarized and several pull-tabs amounting to at least $732 were stolen. Investigation into this report continues.

    On 6-9-18 at 1441 hours, the Aniak based Alaska State Troopers received a call from Bernice Nicolai, 45 years old of Grayling, reporting her sister had been assaulted. The sister was reported to be in a safe location. AST responded and the investigation revealed Craig Howard, 35 years old of Grayling, assaulted his girlfriend. Craig was arrested and transported to YKCC and remanded for assault in the 4th degree.

    On 6-11-18 around 2052 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Aniak received a call from the Lower Kalskag Tribal Police Officer reporting an assault. Investigation revealed Alexie Evan, 18 years old of Lower Kalskag, assaulted a citizen of Lower Kalskag near the Bingo Hall for an unknown reason. Alexie was arrested and later remanded at YKCC for Assault in the 1st degree and Assault in the 4th degree.

    On 6/13/18 at approximately 0106 hours AST responded to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital Emergency Room for a report of male with a gunshot wound.  The investigation revealed Dustin Elsberry, age 22, of North Pole, had shot a roommate with a pistol in a North Pole residence.  Elsberry was placed under arrest and remanded under the charges of Assault 2 DV, MIW 2, and MIW 4 with no set bail.  Alcohol was a contributing factor.

    Type: MVC-I

    Dispatch Text:

    UPDATE: The driver is identified as Erin E. Powers, 28 of North Pole. Her next of kin has been notified. Powers was driving a 2004 Toyota Tundra when she lost control on a curve and drove off the side of the road. Investigation shows she over-corrected in an apparent attempt to return to the roadway. The vehicle rolled several times and Powers was ejected from the vehicle. Powers was not wearing a seat belt.

    On 6/13/18 at approximately 0404 hours Fairbanks Police Department reported a single vehicle collision with injuries on Badger Rd, North Pole.  The driver and sole occupant was ejected into the roadway and unconscious upon EMS arrival.  The driver was transported to FMH with reportedly life threatening injuries. The driver was medivaced to an Anchorage hospital for further treatment. The driver has been tentatively identified but next of kin notification has not yet been completed. The investigation into the cause and circumstances of the wreck is continuing.

    On June 11, Debbie Bourne (54 YOA) of North Pole contacted the Alaska State Troopers Burglary Suppression and Property Recovery Unit in Fairbanks to report a theft. Investigation revealed Dowlyn Wilson had been invited in to the residence by a family member. Shortly after Dolwyn left the property it was discovered some jewelry and blank checks were taken from the property.  

    Dolwyn Wilson is a suspect in several cases in the Fairbanks North Star Borough. Dowlyn Wilson several warrants for his arrest in Fairbanks and Anchorage.

    Dolwyn Wilson is possibly using the name Bobby Wilson as means to conceal his identity. Dolwyn is currently taking advantage of giving citizens that provide him temporary housing due to his reported homeless status. Dolwyn Wilson is an African-American male, approximately 5' 10" with a medium build. Dolwyn was last seen with dread locks as his hairstyle but that could be easily changed. Dolwyn likes to wear hooded sweat shirts as well.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 6/12/2018 approximately 2051 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a motor vehicle crash involving two motorcycles, near milepost 115 Sterling Highway.  Investigation revealed Thomas Clinton Salmon, age 62 of Soldotna and Jason Thomas McWilliams, age 47 of Soldotna, were each driving 2007 Harley Davidson motorcycles when they lost control in a curved stretch of highway, went off the road, and crashed into the ditch.  Salmon was pronounced deceased at the scene.  McWilliams suffered serious, life threatening injuries and was transported to hospital for treatment.  Alcohol was believed to be a factor.  Next of kin have been notified.  AST investigation continues.

AK Wildlife Troopers

    Text: On 5/29/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, received a report from the Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) that a Black Bear cub had been caught in a snare near Ready Bouillon Creek on Douglas Island.  ADF&G had responded and determined that the bear had suffered extensive injuries as a result of the snare and needed to be euthanized. 

     

    Investigation revealed that the snares had been placed there earlier in the year by Mark Mitchell, age 39 of Juneau, with the intent of trapping/snaring wolves. Further investigation revealed that the snares had been left out and in an active condition after the wolf trapping season had closed for that particular area on 4/30/18.  Mitchell was contacted on 6/13/18 and issued a criminal summons for 1 count of attempting to trap wolves during a closed season.  Mitchell's hunting privileges are currently revoked until November of 2018 for previous hunting violations. Mitchell has a mandatory court appearance in the District Court at Juneau on 6/21/18 at 1100 hours.

    On 06/11/2018 at 1631 hours Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Wrangell contacted Loretto Jones, age 63 from Wrangell aboard the Charter fishing boat, Nautical Son.  Investigation determined Jones as Captain failed to ensure the Saltwater Guide Logbook was completed as required.  Jones was issued a $210 citation in the District Court at Wrangell for Failure to Complete Logbook as Required.

    On 06/11/2018 Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Wrangell contacted Bruce Eagle, age 74 from Wrangell.  Investigation determined Eagle was operating over the limit of Personal Use Dungeness Crab pots and one of the crab pots did not have the correct size of escape rings.  Eagle was issued a summons for Overlimit of Personal Use crab gear and $110 citation for Undersize Escape Rings on a Dungeness Crab pot.  Both the summons and citation are in the District Court at Wrangell.
