    Dispatch Text:

    On 7/11/2017, Prince of Wales based State Troopers were notified of a deceased individual in the community of South Thorne Bay. Preliminary investigation has not revealed any foul play. The remains have been sent to the State Medical Examiner for positive identification. The next of kin have been advised and investigation continues.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 7/11/2017, approximately 2035 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a disabled vehicle on S Settler's Bay Drive near S Calista Drive in Wasilla.  Investigation revealed 51 year old Herbert G. Theodore of Montana Creek was operating a blue 1994 Chevrolet pick-up truck while intoxicated when he ran it out of gas.  Further investigation revealed his license was revoked through the year 2024 for alcohol related driving offenses which total seven previous convictions with the most recent being in 2003.  Theodore was arrested at the scene without incident and remanded to MSPT where he was held on $1000 bail as well as cited for not exhibiting his license when required to do so.  The vehicle was released at the scene to a licensed driver.

    Location: Wasilla
    Type: Eluding 1st/ Misuse of Plates

    Dispatch Text:

    On 7-10-17 at about 2142 hours, the Alaska State Troopers attempted to conduct a traffic stop in the Cottonwood Loop subdivision on a Gold colored Jeep Cherokee after observing the license plates were registered to a different vehicle. The vehicle failed to yield at speeds of over 60 mph in a 25mph residential zone, drove in the wrong lane of travel, and ran a stop sign. After several miles the vehicle reached the end of a dead end road where it left the roadway and launched over a steep embankment. Upon coming to a rest at the bottom, a distance of about 80 feet, the vehicle burst into flames and the male driver fled on foot. The male was located later and identified as 34 year old Wasilla resident Joseph Marquis. He was arrested and charged with Eluding 1st and Misuse of Plates. He was remanded to MSPT where he was held on $5000 bail. The investigation continues.

    On 7/10/17 at approximately 2151 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped a red Ford pickup near the intersection of Alder and Aspen for a moving violation.  Investigation revealed the driver, Jimmy Birdwell age 35 of Wasilla, was operating the vehicle while impaired by alcohol.  Birdwell was arrested for DUI Alcohol and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded into custody to be released on his own recognizance.

    Type: Disorderly Conduct

    Dispatch Text:

    On 7-5-2017 at approximately 2200 hours, Selawik State Troopers contacted 18 year old Heather Clark after she was observed intoxicated and throwing something at the side of the Selawik Apartments. When contacted Heather became combative and was taken into protective custody. Heather was subsequently charged with Disorderly Conduct after she became physically combative with AST. Heather was later transported to the Selawik Holding Facility where she was remanded to custody.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 7-5-2017 at approximately 1900 hours, Dionne Coaltrain responded to the Selawik State Trooper Office claiming to have been assaulted by her boyfriend. AST investigation disclosed Dionne had in fact assaulted her boyfriend and was subsequently charged with two counts of Assault in the Third Degree. An arrest warrant was issued for Dionne as she is actively avoiding contact with AST.

    On 7-9-2017 at approximately 2200 hours, Selawik State Troopers contacted 22 year old Jared Brown after a 4-wheeler was observed speeding down the board road, approximately 30 MPH over the posted speed limit. When contacted a short time later at a residence in Selawik, Jared was found to be extremely intoxicated. Jared attempted to flee from the residence on the 4-Wheeler and was subsequently arrested for DUI.

    Type: Overdue Hiker

    Dispatch Text:

    On 7/9-2017 at 1843 hours, the Alaska State Troopers were notified of an overdue hiker on the Termination Point Trail in Kodiak. The overdue hiker was a 12 year old male and his dog. The juvenile had been hiking with his mother and other children but had gone ahead on the trail and lost sight of the rest of the group. Once the group arrived back at their car, they realized the 12 year old was not there like they had expected. Family and friends started searching the trails for the missing juvenile. Approximately 30 volunteers from the community showed up and started searching as well. At 2050 hours, the juvenile called his mother and father and advised them of his location. The juvenile had hiked several miles in the wrong direction and ended up finding a fish camp where he borrowed a cell phone. A skiff picked up the juvenile and his dog and transported them back to Kodiak where they were re-united with their family. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank all the volunteers for the quick response and their willingness to help.

    Type: MVC-Damage

    Dispatch Text:

    On 7/10/2017 at 1157 hours, the Alaska State Troopers in Kodiak responded to the report of a single vehicle collision near mile 9 of the Chiniak Highway.  Subsequent investigation revealed that Dakota Evans, 19 years old of Kodiak, was operating a 2005 Jeep Wrangler when she encounter water on the roadway causing the vehicle to hydroplane and collide with the ditch.  The vehicle then overturned in the drainage ditch.  Evans was able exit the vehicle with the assistance of a community member.  She reported no injuries on scene and that she had been wearing her safety belt at the time of the collision.  The Jeep was a total loss.

    On 07/11/2017 at approximately 1315 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted Geneva Cleveland, 29 of Fairbanks at a residence on McGrath Road. Cleveland has an outstanding warrant for failing to appear in court on the original charges of Theft in the First Degree, Theft in the Second Degree and Burglary in the First Degree. Cleveland was arrested and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where she was held on $25,000 bail.

    On 7/10/2017 at approximately 2320 hours, Alaska State Troopers arrested Rose Eileen Smith, age 33 of Sterling for DUI on Kenai Keys Road.  She was contacted during a different investigation while riding an all terrain vehicle.  Investigation revealed she was driving the vehicle while impaired and under the influence of alcohol.  She was arrested for DUI and remanded at Wildwood Pretrial Facility.

    On 7/11/17 at about 1200 hours, Alaska state troopers responded to a REDDI report (Report every Dangerous Driver Immediately) that had gone into the ditch on Tagala Avenue in Soldotna. Subsequent investigation revealed Shawna Marie Cansino, 27 of Soldotna, was the driver. She was ultimately arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcoholic beverages and later remanded at Wildwood pretrial.

    On 7-11-17 at 1740 hours the Alaska State Troopers contacted Travis Hatten (22 YOA of Soldotna) who was the driver of a vehicle stopped for speeding on Echo Lake Road in Soldotna.  Investigation revealed Hatten was violating a domestic violence protective order by being in contact with the petitioner.  Hatten was arrested and remanded to the Wildwood Pre Trial Facility where he was held without bail.

    On 6/13/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted John Block, age 32 of Juneau, sport fishing for King Salmon at False Outer Point which is within fishing district 11A.  Fishing district 11A had been closed by emergency order to the fishing for, or retention of King salmon until 6/15/17.  Block was issued a $110.00 citation in the District Court at Juneau for sport fishing for King salmon during a closed period.

    On 6/16/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Henry Calcar, age 82 of Washington, in Tracy Arm.  Investigation revealed that Calcar was in possession of an over-limit of Dungeness crabs.  Calcar was issued a $130.00 citation in the District Court at Juneau for possessing an over-limit of Dungeness crabs.

    On 6/24/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Craig Dahl, 68 of Juneau, near Point Couverden.  Investigation revealed that Dahl had fished several personal use shrimp pots that lacked a biodegradable escape mechanism as required.  Dahl was issued a $110.00 citation in the District Court at Juneau for the violation.

    On 6/24/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Edward Petrie, age 35 of Juneau, sport fishing for Halibut near Howard Bay.  Investigation revealed that Howard was using the edible flesh of a sport-caught Coho as bait when prohibited.  Petrie was issued a strict liability citation for using sport caught fish as bait.  Petrie has a mandatory court appearance in the District Court at Juneau.

    On 6/29/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, onboard the P/V Enforcer, contacted John Christner, age 71 of Idaho, sport fishing near Soapstone Cove.  Investigation revealed Christner was sport fishing with the use of 2 lines when only 1 line is allowed.  Christner was issued a $110.00 citation in the District Court at Juneau for the violation.

    On 07/07/2017, Kenneth Hall (34 YOA, Vancouver, WA) was cited by the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in the Bristol Bay fisheries for employing crew member without a 2017 valid crew member license in possession as required. Byron Reeves (28 YOA, Rochester, WA) was also cited for being the employed crewmember without a valid crew members license.  Both Hall and Reeves were cited in the Naknek Court District and fined $260 each.

    On 7/8/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, contacted Lyle A. Hilde, age 57, of Sitka on board the commercial power troll vessel "Anne".  Investigation revealed Hilde had retained a non hatchery marked King Salmon while the season is only open to hatchery marked king salmon with the adipose fin having been removed.  Hilde was issued a summon to appear for arraignment in the District Court at Sitka.  The king salmon was seized.

    On 7/9/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post while on patrol in Tenakee Inlet, cited the following for failing to register seine skiffs with Alaska boat registration as required.  Stephen B. Huestis, age 55 of Washington on board the F/V Martha, Matthew A. Giambrone, age 43 of Minnesota on board the F/V Crista G, and Douglas W. Chaney age 61, aboard the F/V Pacific Rose.  Each person was cited into the District Court at Sitka for fail to register power boat, with bail set at $60.

    On 6-28-17 at approximately 1620 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers working on the P/V Enforcer contacted Rick Stephen 58, of Idaho sport fishing near Excursion Inlet.  Investigation determined Stephen caught a king salmon and failed to record the king salmon on his fishing license.   Stephen was issued a summons for failing to log the king salmon with bail set at $110.

    On 7-8-17 at approximately 1408 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers working aboard the P/V Enforcer contacted Glenn Robinson 67, of Whale Pass sport fishing near Coffman Cove.  Investigation determined Robinson was used a sport caught Coho as bait while fishing for halibut.  Robinson was cited for using sport caught fish as bait and provided a court date in the Petersburg District Court.

    Location: Fairbanks
    Type: DUI & Reckless Driving

    Dispatch Text:

    On 07/07/17 at approximately 0034 hours, a Fairbanks-based Alaska Wildlife Trooper conducted a traffic stop on a 2006 Harley Davidson motorcycle on the Richardson Highway near the Old Rich exit for driving 99mph in a 60mph zone and blowing through a stop sign. The driver of the motorcycle was identified as Cameron Cuppett, age 26 of Fort Wainwright. Investigation revealed Cuppett was operating the motorcycle while under the influence of alcohol and drove recklessly. Cuppett was arrested, issued two citations for traffic violations, and transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center where he was remanded on the charges. He was released later on his own recognizance.

    On 07/08/17 at approximately 1531 hours, a Fairbanks-based Alaska Wildlife Trooper contacted Tek Theang age 47 of San Leandro CA, while he was sport fishing in the Salcha River. Investigation revealed Theang did not have a valid sport fish license as required. Thean was issued a citation with bail set at $210 in the Fairbanks District Court for the violation.

    On 6/22/2017, Alaska Wildlife Troopers at Juneau Post contacted Talaga Iputi, age 52 of Juneau. Investigation revealed Iputi was sport fishing at Fish Creek Pond.  Further investigation reveals Iputi had not obtained a sport fishing license for 2017. Iputi was cited into the District Court at Juneau with a bail amount of $210.

    On 7/1/2017, Alaska Wildlife Troopers at Juneau Post contacted Jamison Miller 25, and Rachel Miller 22, of Juneau. Investigation revealed Jamison was sport fishing at DIPAC and had not obtained a sports fishing license for 2017.  Further investigation reveals Rachel was attempting to snag fish in a prohibited area to snag at DIPAC. Jamison was cited into the District Court at Juneau with a bail amount of $210. Rachel was cited into the District Court at Juneau with a bail amount of $110.

    On 7/7/2017, Alaska Wildlife Troopers at Juneau Post contacted Anthony Delgado 29, of Juneau, working as a sport fishing guide for the business of Juneau Shore Fishing. Investigation revealed Delgado was instructing clients how to snag fish.  Further investigation revealed that Delgado’s clients were snagging fish in a prohibited area to snag at DIPAC. Delgado was cited into the District Court at Juneau with a bail amount of $110.

    Type: Fail to Report Loss of Gillnet

    On 7/7/17, Eric N. Phillip, age 50, of Kongiganak, was cited by Alaska Wildlife Troopers during the Bristol Bay Fisheries for unlawfully and negligently failing to report cutting off & abandoning approximately 20 fathoms of net in the area of Flounder Flats on or about 7/4/17. Arraignment is set for Dillingham District Court on July 17, 2017.
