AK17048643Location: KodiakType: Attempted Theft / Criminal Mischief / Criminal Trespass
On July 17, 2017, at approximately 0658 hours, Kodiak AST received a report from the State of Alaska Department of Transportation of damage to State of Alaska owned vehicle. Investigation revealed unknown person(s) attempted to remove vehicle parts from the undercarriage of a white GMC van that was parked at a State of Alaska building. AST investigation is ongoing.

AK17047840Location: TellerType: Homicide
On 7/14/17, at about 0430 hours Alaska State Troopers in Nome received a report of a stabbing death in Teller. Investigation showed that William A. Johnson, 31, of Barrow and Unalakleet died as a result of being stabbed by Frank Lee, 43, of Teller. The incident was witnessed by multiple people. Lee was medevaced to Anchorage and was later arrested on a $100,000 warrant for Murder 1.

AK17048607Location: FairbanksType: Criminal Mischief
On 07/16/17 at approximately 2350 hours AST received a report of a disabled vehicle being towed down Howland Rd. It was reported the vehicle being towed was causing extensive damage to the private roadway. AST responded and arrived shortly after the report. The investigation revealed the roadway sustained a significant amount of damage. Involved parties were identified and the investigation is continuing.

On 7/17/17 at approximately 5:00 a.m. AST made contact with Luke T. Higgins, age 30, of Anchorage. Investigation resulted in Higgins being cited for Fail to Record Personal Use (dip net). He was issued a bailable citation and released.

AK17048524Location: SewardType: SAR-Death Investigation
On 7-16-17 at 1605 hours, Soldotna dispatch received a report of a hiker in distress on Flat Top Mountain. Anchorage Fire Department, Life-Med and an Alaska State Park Ranger responded to the trail head. Investigation determined that David Irwin, age 70, of Georgia, had a heart attack while hiking and passed away. Irwin was taken to the State Medical Examiners Office and his next of kin was notified.

On 7/13/17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau post, issued Ralph Cole, age 76, of Anacortes, WA a citation for operating the FV DC Cole during the second Amalga Harbor SHA seine opening without first licensing his vessel with the commercial fisheries entry commission. Cole was given a $210 fine for the offense out of the Juneau District Court.

AK17048648Location: Pt. Sophia / HoonahType: Retain Undersized Sport Caught Dungeness Crab
On 7/16/17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau post, issued Mary Standaert, age 60, of Edmonds, WA, a citation for retaining undersized sport caught Dungeness crab. Standaert was given a $130 fine for the offense out of the Hoonah District Court.

AK17047106Location: JuneauType: Commercial Gillnet Closed Period
On 6/27/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted permit-holder and skipper of the F/V Blue Boy, Patrick Dunbar, age 38 of Haines, after he was observed commercial gillnetting in the waters of district 15C near Point Bridgett, 33 minutes after the closure of the fishing period in that area. Dunbar was issued a misdemeanor summons for commercial gillnetting during a closed period and the proceeds from 834lbs of Chum salmon were seized. Dunbar has a mandatory court appearance in the District Court at Juneau.
