  • AK19053410

    Location: Seward
    Type: missing persons

    Dispatch Text:

UPDATE: After investigation and consultation with the Kenai District Attorney's office, Melissa Salgado, 40 of Seward, and Jeffrey Erickson, 46 of Seward, were both arrested and charged with Custodial Interference in the second degree. Erickson is being remanded to the Seward Jail. Salgado is being remanded to the Cordova Jail. The children were returned to OCS custody. Investigation is ongoing.

Update: On 8/9/2019 at approximately 1520 hours, the missing children and Melissa Salgado were located in Cordova and are safe.

On 8/6/2019 at about 1805 hours, The Office of Children Services requested AST perform a welfare check for three children in Foster care. On 8/7/2019, it was determined that the children were wrongfully removed from a foster parent in the Seward area by an unknown female. The three missing children are identified as Slate Erickson, age 4, Jedidiah “Fox” Erickson, age 7, and Pepper Erickson, age 9. The investigation into the children’s disappearance revealed on 8/5/19 at approximately 2330 hours, a female arrived at the foster home claiming to be sent by OCS. The woman provided a name that the foster parents recognized as someone who they anticipated may be taking possession of the children but they had never met. The foster parents allowed the children to leave with the female. The foster parents were later shown a photo of the person the woman had claimed to be, and the foster parents confirmed it was as not the female that took the children. Further investigation has revealed that the children’s mother, Melissa Salgado, 40 of Seward, is also now missing.  There is a concern that the children could be anywhere along the road system. Anyone with any information regarding the location of Salgado or the Erickson children are asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers in Soldotna at 907-262-4453.
