Alaska State Troopers Press Release of Wednesday, September 13, 2017
Any charges reported in these press releases are merely accusations and the defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
AK17065038Location: KetchikanType: MVC-Injury
On 09/12/2017 at about 2242 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report of a single vehicle motor vehicle collision at mile 13 of the South Tongass Highway. Investigation revealed that Aditya Malhotra, age 24, of Ketchikan was operating a 2010 Mazda southbound on the South Tongass Highway when he came to the end of the pavement and hit gravel which caused him to lose control of the vehicle and leave the roadway striking a rockwall. All four occupants received minor to moderate injuries and two were transported the PeaceHealth Ketchikan Medical Center. All occupants reported wearing seatbelts. The vehicle sustained heavy damage and was towed from the scene. The Alaska State Troopers would like to thank South Tongass Volunteer Fire Department and Ketchikan Fire Department for their fast response and assistance.

AK17064996Location: KetchikanType: VCOR
On 09/12/2017 at about 1903 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted Anthony Dupea, age 51, of Ketchikan at his residence in the 2500 Block of the South Tongass Highway. Dupea was under investigation reference a VCOR case which occurred on 09/08/2017. Investigation revealed that Dupea again was found in violation of current conditions of release set by the Ketchikan Courthouse by consuming alcohol. The original charge was DUI. Dupea was arrested and transported to Ketchikan Correctional Center and remanded on his underlying offense of DUI.

AK17065020Location: PalmerType: Deceased Person
On 09/12/2017 at approximately 2027 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to the area of Birch Forest for the report of a deceased person. Investigation revealed 86 year old Nancy Edwards died of natural causes. No foul play is suspected and next of kin has been notified.

AK17065040Location: WasillaType: Criminal Mischief 3rd, Assault 4th(2x), Reckless Endangerment (4x)
On 9/12/2017 at approximately 2255 hours, AST responded to a residence down Knik Goose Bay Road outside of Wasilla for a report of an active disturbance. An investigation revealed Jeremiah W. Hoover, 37 YOA of Wasilla, had assaulted family members, caused reckless endangerment, and had smashed a family members vehicle with a semi-truck. Hoover was arrested for Criminal Mischief in the 3rd, Assault in the Fourth, and Reckless Endangerment. Hoover was remanded into custody at Matsu Pretrial. No bail was set.

AK17064993Location: PalmerType: DUI
On 09/12/2017 at approximately 1900 hours, Troopers arrived on Bodenburg Loop near the Old Glenn Hwy after responding to a REDDI report about a vehicle driving dangerously and running into the ditch. Upon arrival, Troopers contacted Joshua Placzek, age 31 of Palmer, walking away from the vehicle. Investigation reveals Placzek was driving the vehicle while intoxicated when it ran into the ditch. Placzek was arrested and remanded to Mat Su Pre-trial for DUI. He is also being held for a parole and probation violation for DUI on original charges of MICS 4 and MIW 5.

AK17065256Location: Tok, AlaskaType: Warrant Arrest
On 9/13/17 at approximately 1635 hours, Tok AST contacted 44 year old Tetlin resident, Wendell Gene in the village of Tetlin. Gene was placed under arrest for a $50 warrant for failure to appear on an original charge of no valid operators license. Gene was transported to Tok AST and held until arraignments the next morning.

AK17065288Location: Tok, AlaskaType: Warrant Arrest
On 9/13/17 at approximately 1700 hours, Tok AST contacted 26 year old Tetlin resident, Meranda Sam in the village of Tetlin. Sam was placed under arrest for a $250 arrest warrant stemming from an original charge of DUI. Sam was transported to Tok AST and held until arraignments the next day.

AK17065268Location: Tok, AlaskaType: Unlawfully taking game by shooting from/on/across highway
On 9/13/17 at approximately 1759 hours, Tok AST contacted 64 year old Anchorage resident, Norman Gallen. AST drove up behind Gallen, while he was stopped in the middle of 4 mile Tetlin Road. AST then observed him to shoot a moose in that was also in the middle of the road. Gallen was cited for 5AAC 92.080(1) (shooting a moose from/on/across a highway) and his bail set at $310.

AK17064845Location: NikiskiType: Theft II, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Criminal Trespass I
On September 12th, 2017 at approximately 1145 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence near Rector Street, Nikiski for a report of a theft. Investigation revealed Jonnie A. Stolz, age 75 of Nikiski, trespassed on property and stole a plane propeller. Further investigation revealed Stolz concealed the propeller on his property. The propeller was recovered. Charges for Theft II, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Criminal Trespass been sent to the Kenai Court.

AK17064908Location: KasilofType: No Valid Operator's License
On 9/12/17 at about 1435 hours, Alaska State Troopers stopped a Ford SUV on North Cohoe Road in Kasilof for a traffic violation. The driver was identified as Molly Ann Hughes, 22 of Kasilof. Subsequent investigation revealed Hughes did not have a valid operators license. Hughes was issued a mandatory court citation for driving without a Valid Operators License and released.

AK17065151Location: SoldotnaType: Warrant Arrest
On 9/13/17 at about 1210 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence off Vonda St. in Soldotna. While at the residence troopers contacted Bridget Lee Marie Samson, 27 of Soldotna. Investigation revealed Samson had two outstanding arrest warrants for Failure to Appear for arraignments with original charges of Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance 4th degree X2, Driving with no License, No Insurance, and Improper Use of Registration. Samson was arrested and remanded at Wildwood pretrial with a $500 bail.

TBDLocation: KenaiType: Body Recovery
On 9-12-2017 at 1617 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to the Kenai River near the mouth known as the North Beach Area after it was reported someone located a body on the beach. AST took possession of the body and it will be sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office for positive identification. This press release will be updated with the identification of the person once it has been completed by the State Medical Examiner's Office.

AK Wildlife Troopers
AK17044511Location: SitkaType: Under Size King Salmon- Commercial Troll
On 9/12/17 Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Sitka Post, cited Jesse J. Jeske, age 37 of Sitka, for retaining an under size commercial troll caught King salmon on 7/2/17. The fish was previously seized. An arraignment is set in the District Court at Sitka on 10/10/17.

AK17064952Location: KodiakType: Fail to release
On 9/12/17, Kodiak AWT contacted Bruce Broding, 66 YOA, of Lake Oswego, OR, while sport fishing in Pillar Creek. Broding failed to release a salmon hooked other than in the mouth. Broding was issued a citation for Fail to Release. Bail was set at $130. The salmon was donated to charity.
