Alaska State Troopers Press Release of Wednesday, September 6, 2017

AK17063030Location: KetchikanType: Warrant Arrest
On 09/05/2017 at about 1945 hours, the Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested Donald Astry, age 27, of Ketchikan at a residence on Pond Reef Road. Astry had an outstanding arrest warrant for Fail to file Community Work Service reference the original charge of Assault in the 4th Degree. Astry was remanded to Ketchikan Correctional Center with 10 days to serve.

AK17063400Location: WasillaType: Warrant Arrest
On 9/6/17 at approximately 1953 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a 1998 Honda Civic for an equipment violation. Investigation revealed the passenger, Tyler Baldwin, age 20 of Wasilla had an outstanding warrant out for his arrest. He was arrested, transported and remanded to Anchorage Jail.

AK17063391Location: FairbanksType: Domestic Violence Assault IV
On September 6th, 2017 at 1912 hours, AST dispatched received a call reporting an assault. AST responded and contacted Katrina Watson, 38 of Fairbanks. The investigation resulted in Katrina's arrest for Assault in the Fourth Degree Domestic Violence. Katrina was transported to the Fairbanks Memorial Hospital for clearance prior to her remand at the Fairbanks Correctional Center.

AK17063253Location: SoldotnaType: MVC-I
On 9-6-2017 at 1217 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to a two vehicle collision at the intersection of K Beach Road and Poppy Lane. Investigation revealed a 2016 Ford pickup driven by Claudia Johnson (61 YOA of Soldotna) went into the intersection on a red light. The pickup struck a 1999 Ford Explorer driven by Darci McFaul (20 YOA of Soldotna). McFaul was transported to the hospital for treatment of non life threatening injuries. Johnson was issued a citation for failure to stop for red light. All occupants were seatbelted. Both vehicle sustained major damage and were towed from the scene.

On 09/04/17 at 1312 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cantwell Post received a report that unknown hunters had shot and wounded a moose at mile 111 of the Denali Highway and then left the area failing to salvage the wounded game. Anyone with information on the hunter's identity or any possible leads is requested to contact the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Cantwell at 907-768-4050.

AK17063332Location: CantwellType: Failure to leave meat on the bone, Hunter Education Required in GMU13
On 09/04/17 at 1504 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cantwell Post, issued a summons to Dustin Garret Lamont, 31 yoa of Wasilla AK, at mile 112 of the Denali Highway, for failing to leave the rib meat of a caribou, taken before October 1st in GMU13, naturally attached to the bone while in the field. Arraignment is scheduled in the Nenana Court for September 18, 2017 at 1330 hours. Troopers also issued a citation to Fritz Frier, 30 yoa of Willow, for failing to complete a basic hunter education course prior to hunting in GMU13. Hunters hunting in GMU13 that were born after January 1, 1986 are required to have completed a basic hunter education course prior to hunting. Bail for Fritz was set at $110. An optional court appearance is scheduled in the Nenana District Court.

AK17063230Location: Prince of Wales IslandType: Sport fishing without a license.
On 9/5/17 at approximately 1545 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Wiley Heppe, age 27 of Klawock, while on patrol at the Klawock River. Investigation revealed that Heppe was sport fishing without a current sport-fish license. Heppe was issued a $210.00 citation for fishing without a license.

AK17063223Location: Prince of Wales IslandType: Sport fishing without a license.
On 9/5/17 at approximately 1530 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers on Prince of Wales Island contacted Kolton Tipton, age 28 of Klawock, while on patrol at the Klawock River. Investigation revealed that Tipton was sport fishing without a current sport-fish license. Tipton was issued a $210.00 citation for fishing without a license.

AK17062557Location: CantwellType: Take over limit Caribou
On 09/03/17 at 1700 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Cantwell Post, issued a citation to Rachel Jean Westveer, 32 yoa of Chugiak, at mile 68 of the Denali Highway near Cantwell for taking an over limit of caribou. An investigation by Troopers revealed Westveer harvested 2 caribou in GMU13 in a 1 caribou area. Arraignment is scheduled in the Nenana District Court on September 18, 2017 at 1330 hours.

AK17062583Location: Delta JunctionType: Take Sublegal Moose
24 year old Fairbanks resident David J. Steininger contacted the Alaska Wildlife Troopers to report he had shot a sub-legal bull moose in GMU 20D. David’s moose was seized and donated to charity. David was issued a citation with a mandatory court appearance scheduled for September 25, 2017 at 1400 hours at the Delta Junction Courthouse.
