AK17063458Location: KetchikanType: Warrant Arrest
On 06-22-2017 at approximately 0753 hours Alaska State Troopers in Ketchikan arrested 27 year old Gabriel B. Cassin of Ketchikan on an outstanding arrest warrant issued by the Ketchikan District Court stemming from Theft 4 and Criminal Trespass 2 charges. Cassin was arrested without incident and remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center, bail is $100.00.

AK17063452Location: WasillaType: Robbery 1, Burglary 1, Assault 3, Theft 2, Vehicle Theft 1, Assault 4
On 09-07-2017 at approximately 0658 hours, Alaska State Troopers with Mat-Su West Patrol and the Criminal Suppression Unit responded to a report of a home invasion robbery at a residence located off of S. Tradewinds Cir, Wasilla. The victim was investigating an unsecured door when 2 suspects physically assaulted the victim and threatened the victim with a weapon. The suspects stole the victim’s vehicle and multiple firearms. The investigation is ongoing. AK17063427Location: WillowType: No Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance
On 09/07/2017 at approximately 0122 hours, Alaska State Troopers conducted a traffic stop on a green 1993 Ford Escort for an equipment violation near mile 69 of the Parks Highway in Willow. An investigation revealed the driver, Halee Renee Hayes, age 35 of Wasilla was operating the vehicle without Motor Vehicle Liability Insurance. Hayes was issued a misdemeanor citation with a notice to appear to the Palmer Courthouse on a later date and released at the scene.

AK17063571Location: TogiakType: Warrant Arrest-Failure to Remand
On 09/07/17 at about 1100 hours, Togiak Based Alaska State Troopers contacted and arrested 59 year old Henry Kanulie. Kanulie had a outstanding arrest warrant for failure to remand on the original conviction of Trespass in the Second Degree. Kanulie was arrested and transported to the Dillingham jail to begin serving his sentence.

AK17063425Location: AniakType: DUI, MOCA, and MCA
On 9-7-17 around 0110 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received report that Tristen Kalila, 20 years old of Aniak, was involved in a single vehicle collision on a 4 wheeler and he was under the influence of alcohol. AST responded and the investigation revealed Tristen was driving the 4 wheeler while impaired on an intoxicating liquor. Tristen was arrested for Driving Under the Influence of alcohol, Minor operating a vehicle after consuming alcohol, and Minor consuming alcohol.

AK17063669Location: ShungnakType: Warrant Arrest
On September 7, 2017 at 1100 hours the Village Public Safety Officer in Shungnak contacted Elaine Tickett, a 41 year old female of Shungnak. Elaine was arrested pursuant to an arrest warrant. Elaine was transported to the Kotzebue Regional Jail to serve her sentence from a previous conviction.

AK17063374Location: KobukType: Burglary 1, Criminal Trespass 1, Assault 4
On September 6, 2017 at 1650 hours the Village Police Officer in Kobuk contacted the Alaska State Troopers and reported someone was assaulted by a non-family/non-household person. The investigation is on going. The victim sustained minor injuries.

AK17063419Location: FairbanksType: Assault 4 DV
On September 7, 2017 at approximately 2:14 a.m. Alaska State Troopers in Fairbanks received a call about an assault near Easy Street. Troopers contacted Don Brown, age 63 of Fairbanks. Investigation revealed that Don had assaulted a family member. Don was placed under arrest and transported to Fairbanks Correctional Center.

AK17063502Location: FairbanksType: EOD Response
On 9/7/17 at 1010 hours, the Alaska State Troopers received a report from a concerned citizen who found what they believed to be an artillery round at the West Farmer’s Loop Transfer Site. AST responded to the scene and contacted Fort Wainwright Explosive Ordinance Disposal (EOD) Unit. Wainwright EOD has responded to the scene and deployed a robot to assess the round. Wainwright EOD was unable to determine the type of artillery round. Wainwright EOD is in the process of disposing the round.

AK17062489Location: Anchor PointType: Missing Person
Troopers continue to investigate the disappearance of John “Clint” Griffith, 40 yoa of Texas, from the Homer area. Griffith was last seen at the OReilly’s store in Homer on 9/2/17 at about 11:22 am. He did not have access to a vehicle so he was traveling on foot and may have been hitchhiking. He was last seen wearing a blue t-shirt and possibly blue jeans. If anyone picked up Griffith hitchhiking or saw him hitchhiking or walking after 11:30 am on Saturday 9/2/17 please contact the Alaska State Troopers at 907-262-4453.
On 9/2/17 at 1500 hours, Anchor Point Troopers received a report that John Griffith, 40 of Texas, had not showed up at work and had not been heard from since the morning hours. An investigation showed Griffith was last seen in the morning hours on 9/2/17 and he had failed to show up at his work site nor has he been in contact with anyone. Griffith missed scheduled flights to go home to Texas on 9/4/17. Griffith was last seen wearing an orange jumpsuit with Mi Swaco markings on it. Anyone who has seen Griffith or with information about him is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers.

AK17063521Location: SewardType: Criminal Mischief 4
On 9/7/17 at approximately 1122 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report from Donna Odom, from Tennessee, reporting her rental vehicle was damaged while it was parked at the Resurrection Road House located at 31772 Herman Lerier. The damage occurred between 9/5/17 at 1800 hours and 1900 hours. The damage was estimated at approximately $300.00. Investigation continues.

On 9-7-17 at 1445 hours, Corbin Sterling, age 34 of Seward, contacted Alaska State Troopers and reported two firearms had been stolen out of his truck sometime in the last several months. One of the guns is a Winchester Model 70 .338 win mag valued at 700.00 dollars. The other is a pump action Remington .22 long rifle and scope, valued at 300.00 dollars. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Alaska State Troopers in Seward at 907-224-3346.

On 9-7-17 at 1141 hours the Alaska State Troopers stopped a Ford Escape for speeding near mile 103 Sterling Highway. The driver was identified as Micah Jennings (34 YOA of Soldotna). Investigation revealed that Jennings had a warrant for his arrest in the amount of $100.00 for failure to appear original charge of probation violation. Jennings was arrested and remanded to the Wildwood Pre Trial Facility.

AK Wildlife Troopers
AK17062482Location: HealyType: Use motorized vehicle in controlled use area.
On 09/06/17 at 1700 hours, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Fairbanks Post, issued a citation to Craig Ronald Sandine, 49 yoa of Fairbanks, for using a motorized vehicle, his ATV, to hunt moose, a big game animal, in the Wood River Controlled Use area in GMU 20A, which prohibits the use of a motorized vehicle by hunters hunting big game. Arraignment is scheduled in the Nenana District Court for September 25, 2017 at 1330 hours.

AK17063393Location: McGrathType: DUI(felony)
Text: On 9-6-17, 44 y/o Glen Holmberg of McGrath was arrested and charged with Felony DWI. The charge resulted after an Mcgrath based Alaska Wildlife Trooper observed Holmberg operating an ATV in an erratic manner near Mguires' Tavern. Subsequent investigation showed that Holmberg was operating the ATV under the influence of alcohol, and that he has three previous DWI convictions within the last ten years. Holmberg is being held in the McGrath Jail facility pending arraignment.

AK Bureau of Highway Patrol
AK17063379Location: HopeType: DUI
On 09/06/17 at 1705 hours, Alaska State Troopers, Bureau of Highway Patrol arrested Leah Reed (age 21 of Anchorage, AK) for driving under the influence (DUI). Reed was operating a Kia Optima passenger car near mile 65 of the Seward Highway. Reed was contacted on a traffic stop for a moving violation. The traffic investigation revealed Reed was an impaired driver. Reed was arrested and transported to the Anchorage Correctional Complex for DUI processing. Reed’s vehicle was impounded. Reed was cited for the moving violation. After the DUI processing, Reed was released on her own recognizance with a mandatory court date.

AK Div of Fire and Life Safety
AK17063450Location: ButteType: Fire- Fatal
UPDATE: The State Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified the children as: Alexis Quakenbush, 12, Nevaeh Flores, 8, Lilyanna Flores, 7, Sofia Flores, 6, Jaelynn Flores, 3, all of Palmer. All children died as a result of smoke inhalation. Next of kin has been notified. Through investigation by the State Fire Marshal’s Office and Alaska State Troopers, the fire was determined to be accidental. The cause of the fire was determined to be cooking-related. No foul play is suspected.
UPDATE: The remains of five children have been recovered from the burned-out trailer. Investigation into the cause and circumstances of the fire is ongoing. The remains will be transported to the State Medical Examiner's office for autopsy and positive identification. The victims are believed to all be female, ages ranging from 3 to 12.
On 9/7/2017 at approximately 0658 hours, Alaska State Troopers and the Alaska Fire Marshal's Office were notified of a residential fire in the Butte. Troopers and Deputy Fire Marshals have responded. There are three confirmed fatalities. Two people are unaccounted for. Investigation and efforts to find the two unaccounted for people are underway.
