    Dispatch Text:

    On 9-8-17 at 0940 hours, the Alaska State Troopers arrested Maria Shields, age 44 of Saxman, for an outstanding warrant stemming from the original charge of Assault IV.  Shields was remanded to the Ketchikan Correctional Center without incident.

    Location: Palmer
    Type: Search and Rescue

    Dispatch Text:

    On 9/7/17 at approximately 1800 hours, AST was notified, Bryce Baker age 24 of Pennsylvania, became separated from his group while hunting and was stuck in a ravine unable to get out.  Baker was located by AST Helo 4 in a heavily wooded, steep mountainside ravine bordered by a waterfall.  Baker was unable to self rescue and did not have survival supplies.  Assets with both the Alaska Mountain Rescue Group (AMRG) and the Rescue Coordination Center (RCC) were contacted for assistance.  At approximately 2300 hours, rescue personnel with RCC responded to the area, located and recovered Baker.  Baker was flown to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center where he was assessed and released.

    Location: Dillingham Lakes Region
    Type: Shooting/Death Investigation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 9/8/17 at approximately 1533 hours, AST Dillingham received a report from Tikchik Adventures reporting that a hunter had died after shooting himself.  The hunter was identified as Brian Leslie Heinrichsen age 65, from Hoonah, AK.  AST and AWT responded to the scene located approximately 8 miles north of Amanka Lake (approximately 25.8 miles west of Dillingham), where they found Heinrichsen deceased.  Investigation so far reveals that Heinrichsen was hunting with a friend when he shot himself in the chest with his .454 caliber Casull, while removing it from his shoulder holster.  The State Medical Examiner’s Office was notified and Heinrichsen’s remains are being transported to Anchorage for autopsy.  Next of kin were notified.  No foul play is suspected.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 9-7-17, AST conducted an investigation of a reported DV assault in the village of Togiak.  The investigation disclosed Frank Logusak Jr, age 30 of Togiak assaulted a family member on two separate occasions.  AST requested and received an arrest warrant for Logusak from the Dillingham Court with bail set at $1.500 cash bail.  Logusak was arrested in Togiak and transported Logusak to the Dillingham Correctional Center on above listed charges.  Alcohol is believed to be a factor in this incident.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 09/08/17 at approximately 0328 hours Soldotna AST received a tip from an anonymous caller reporting the location of Christopher Anthony (29), of Soldotna, who had three warrants totaling $2,500. Soldotna AST responded to the residence and, after subsequent investigation, Anthony was arrested on the warrants and remanded at Wildwood Pre-trial Facility.

    Location: K-Beach Road & Chugach Drive
    Type: DUI, MIW-4 x2

    Dispatch Text:

    On 9-7-17 at 0113 hours, AST conducted a traffic stop near K-Beach Road and Chugach Drive on a White 2017 Kia Optima after observing a moving violation. The driver was identified as Danielle R. Dehoyos, 38 YOA of Soldotna. Investigation revealed Dehoyos was driving under the influence. Dehoyos was arrested, processed and transported to Wildwood Pretrial in Kenai. Dehoyos was remanded on charges of DUI and two counts of MIW-4 after being found to have two loaded handguns in the vehicle.

    Location: Creamers Field - Fairbanks
    Type: Take Moose Closed Area - Creamers Field State Game Refuge, Unlawful Possession and Transportation

    Dispatch Text:

    On 09/08/17, a Fairbanks-based Alaska Wildlife Trooper contacted Dean Sims, age 55 of Wichita KS, while he was cleaning a moose near the boardwalk in the Creamers Field State Game Refuge. Investigation revealed, Sims shot a moose in a closed area of Creamers Field and also did not properly register with the Alaska Department of Fish and Game as required. Sims was issued two criminal summons with a mandatory court date in Fairbanks District Court on 09/26/17 at 0900 hours for the violations. The moose was seized and donated to charity.

    On 09-05-17, Delta-based Wildlife Troopers were contacted by Jason Toole, 40 of Eagle River wanting to report he had taken a bull moose on 09/04/17 near Coalmine Rd. in GMU20D that did not meet the antler restriction.  While still in the field Toole cut the antlers off of each side of the moose’s skull when neither side possessed the required number of brow tines to be legal. Toole was cited for Evidence of Sex & Identity / Altered Antlers and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Delta District Court on 09-25-17.

    On 09-02-17, Delta-based Wildlife Troopers were contacted by Jeffrey Brown, 54 of Delta Junction wanting to report he had taken a moose near Donnelly Lake in GMU20D that did not meet the antler restriction.  The moose Brown took displayed antlers 47¾” wide with 3X2 brow tines. Brown was cited for Take Sub-Legal Bull Moose and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Delta District Court on 09-18-17.

    On 09-03-17, Delta-based Wildlife Troopers contacted David Tate, 19 of North Pole at a camp near Granite Creek.  Tate had harvested a bull moose on 09/01/17 near Granite Creek in GMU20D that did not meet the antler restriction for a moose to be legal to harvest in that area.  The moose Tate took displayed antlers 42¾” wide with 2X2 brow tines. Tate was cited for Take Sub-Legal Bull Moose and is scheduled to be arraigned in the Delta District Court on 09-18-17.

    Type: Same Day Airborne, Unlawful Possession of Big Game

    On 9/8/17 Alaska Wildlife Troopers received a complaint about possible same day airborne hunting.  Investigation revealed that Jason Sidney of Duncansville, PA had been medevaced from the field the previous day by RCC.  Sidney had lacerated himself while butchering a caribou he had harvested the same day he had flown into the field.  Sidney was issued criminal misdemeanor citations for Same Day Airborne Take of Big Game and Unlawful Possession and Transportation of Game, both carry a mandatory court appearance in Nenana on September 18th at 1:30 PM.

    On 9/4/17, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Michael Henderson, age 52 of Juneau, at DIPAC after observing him sport fishing in the closed waters near the DIPAC fish ladder.  Henderson was issued a $110.00 citation for sport fishing closed waters.  The citation was issued in the District Court at Juneau.

    On 9-7-17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Palmer contacted William Anderson, age 27 of Sutton, after he reported taking a sub-legal moose. The antlers were seized and the meat was donated to a charity. Anderson was issued a summons for a mandatory court appearance into Palmer Court for taking a sub-legal moose.

    On 9-7-17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Palmer contacted Ronald McCullough, age 47 of Palmer, after ADF&G reported he attempted to seal a sub-legal sheep. The horns, cape, and meat were seized. The meat was donated to a charity. McCullough was issued a summons for a mandatory court appearance into Palmer Court for taking a sub-legal sheep.

Olsen failed to remove the antlers from the field. The meat was donated to a charity. Olsen was issued a summons for a mandatory court appearance into Palmer Court for taking a sub-legal moose.

Duchene was issued a summons for a mandatory court appearance into Glennallen Court for taking a cow moose.

    Type: Unlawful methods of duck hunting, hunting without federal duck stamp

    On 9-1-17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Palmer contacted Daniel Carson, Rachel Carson, and a juvenile, ages 21, 18, and 16, all of Anchorage, at Jim Lake near Palmer after it was reported they were shooting ducks from a moving motor boat. Daniel Carson and the juvenile were issued mandatory appearance summons into Palmer court for shooting ducks from a moving boat. Rachel Carson was issued an optional appearance citation for duck hunting without a federal duck stamp. Two shotguns and six ducks were seized. The ducks were donated and the shotguns are subject to forfeiture pending disposition form the court.

    Type: Hunting without hunter education

    On 9-1-17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Palmer contacted Nazeri Munoz, age 21 of Anchorage, at Jim Lake near Palmer. Munoz was issued an optional appearance citation for hunting without a hunter safety card.

    Hunters born after January 1st, 1986 are required to have taken hunter education from ADF&G or an equivalent course from another state before they are able to hunt in Game Management Units 7, 13, 14, 15, and 20. There are other area's which require hunter education and other weapon specific education requirements. The Alaska Wildlife Troopers would like to encourage younger hunters to review the requirements listed on page 13 of the 2017-2018 hunting regulations.

    Type: Shoot bear in defense of life

    Dispatch Text:

    On 9-2-17, the Alaska Wildlife Troopers in Palmer contacted Bobby Foote, age 52 of Wasilla, after he reported shooting a sow brown bear in defense of his life. Investigation revealed the bear charged him and a partner while he was moose hunting near Palmer and he dropped the bear with a single shot from a large rifle at close range. The bear stopped approximately 3 feet from Foote’s feet. The bear was with a second year cub which is expected to survive. The bear hide and skull was surrendered to ADF&G and will be used for educational purposes or sold at the annual ADF&G fur auction.
