Type: Missing Persons/Death Investigation

UPDATE: As a result of the investigation by Alaska State Troopers, State Medical Examiner’s Office, State Fire Marshal and the Bureau of Alcohol Tobacco Firearms and Explosives, the deaths of Daniel Duck and Joni Pearcy were determined to be accidental. Toxicology results show impairment and carbon monoxide inhalation were factors. Next of kin has been notified. 

UPDATE:

On 12/23/2016, the State Medical Examiner's Office positively identified Daniel Duck, 39 of Soldotna, through medical records, as being the other individual deceased inside a burned Bronco on 11/27/2016. Investigation is ongoing.

UPDATE: 

On 12/6/16 the State Medical Examiner’s Office positively identified Joni Pearcy, 52 of Soldotna, through dental records, as one of the deceased individuals that was found in a burned Bronco on 11/27/16.  The identification of the other individual is still pending.  The investigation is ongoing. 

ORIGINAL:

On 11/20/16 Alaska State Troopers at Soldotna post received a report of two missing individuals from the Soldotna area.  The two were last seen the night of 11/14/16-11/15/16 at a residence in Soldotna. The Ford Bronco they usually drive had not been seen either. AST listed them as missing and followed up with associates and places they frequent however did not locate them. 

On 11/27/16 while a Trooper was following up at the residence the individuals were known to be last, a male came out of a wooded area and stated that he had found the Bronco with two bodies inside. The Trooper on scene located the vehicle in a wooded area off of a trail. The vehicle had been burned along with the two bodies. 

Alaska Bureau of Investigation was called out to the scene for further investigation. The bodies are believed to be of the missing persons however positive identification has not been made yet. 

The investigation is ongoing.
