On 7/28/18, Alaska Wildlife Troopers, Juneau Post, contacted Joshua Schuon, age 38 of Juneau, as he was returning to his vessel in Gilbert Bay near Sweetheart Creek. Investigation revealed that Schuon had caught and retained personal use Sockeye salmon, but had failed to obtain a personal use permit as required. Further investigation revealed that Schuon was in possession of halibut that had been disfigured/mutilated in violation of NOAA regulations. Schuon was issued a $210.00 citation for failing to possess a personal use permit. Schuon was also issued a strict liability citation for limitations on halibut. Both citations were issued in the District Court at Juneau. Schuon has a mandatory court appearance. The halibut that was in violation was seized and later donated to a charity.
