On 9/6/18 at approximately 1510 hours, Alaska State Troopers responded to the Lower Russian Lakes trail in Cooper Landing for the report of a woman impaled by an arrow. The woman was approximately 4 to 6 miles from the trailhead. AST provided immediate medical attention while medics responded to the scene. Volunteers from Moose Pass Fire and Bear Creek Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene. Ultimately the 210th and 212th Rescue Squadrons from Rescue Coordination Center responded. The woman was hoisted aboard a National Guard helicopter and transported to Providence Alaska Medical Center for treatment of her non-life threatening injury. The woman was identified as Janis Bronson, age 59 of Anchorage. Bronson was impaled by an arrow that had been left on the trail.
