On 01/11/19 at 1133 hours, Alaska State Troopers, Bureau of Highway Patrol, responded to a report of a motor vehicle crash involving a single vehicle rollover with injuries near mile 71.1 of the Seward Highway. The crash investigation determined Rose Eileen Smith (age 35 of Sterling, AK) was operating a mid-2000’s pickup traveling southbound. The vehicle lost traction on the ice covered pavement as Smith was negotiating a curve. Smith was unable to maintain control of the vehicle as the vehicle went off the southbound side of the highway. The vehicle struck a snow embankment and rolled. The vehicle came to rest on its tires facing northbound approximately ten feet from the roadway. The vehicle sustained damage and had to be towed from the scene. Smith was wearing a seat belt and sustained injuries. Smith was transported by ambulance to an Anchorage area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
