On 4-10-2019, the AKRCC contacted the on-call state SAR coordinator reporting a climber had fallen while climbing on Goat Mountain near Eklutna Lake with unknown injuries. Their climbing partner was descending down to the fallen climber when phone contact was lost. Due to the technical terrain, the AKRCC was tasked and accepted the mission. The AKRCC tasked and launched the 176th Wing HH-60G helicopter crew and Pararescuemen. The flight crew were able to locate the climbers and make their way to the location. The fallen climber, identified as Daniel Dresher, age 25 of New Mexico, had fallen approximately 500 feet and was deceased. The medical examiner’s office was contacted and gave permission to remove the body from the location. The AKRCC was able to recover the body, transport the climbing partner and fly both via HH-60G to JBER where AKANG personnel were met by the State medical examiner and AST. Next of kin for Dresher was notified.
