On 10-15-19 at 1400 hours, Alaska State Troopers in Nome were notified that a body had been discovered in a lagoon 10 miles outside of Gambell. Troopers responded and recovered two deceased males from Aghnaghak Lagoon. The men were identified as Mark Nupowhotuk Jr., 51, and Michael James, 37, both of Gambell. It is believed the men were attempting to cross the lagoon and sunk the 4-wheeler. The bodies were sent to Anchorage, at the Medical Examiner’s request. Next of kin have been notified.
