    Location: Haines
    Type: SAR

    Dispatch Text:

    On 8/11/2018 at approximately 1917 hours, The Haines Police Department received a report that Valentino Barattin, 74 of Haines, had failed to return from picking berries in the Porcupine Area near mile 26 of the Haines Highway. Three Haines SAR Teams, including a Haines-based SEADOGS certified search dog, two Juneau-based SEADOGs, a USCG HC 60 Helicopter, Alaska Mountain Guides, Skagway Fire Department, Haines Borough PD, Haines Volunteer Fire Department and Alaska Wildlife Troopers all assisted in the search. On 8/12/2018 at approximately 1850 hours, Barattin was located near Walker Lake. Barattin reported that he became disoriented and also slightly injured himself. He decided to stay in one location until help arrived. The USCG Helo transported Barattin to the Haines Airport where he was able to meet up with medics. All searchers were successfully recalled from the field and are accounted for. AST would like to thank all the participating SAR personnel that contributed to a successful SAR mission.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 08/12/2018 at 1706 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of shoplifting from a business on the Palmer-Wasilla Highway that had just occurred. Investigation reveals a male around 5'10" wearing a gray sweatshirt and black shorts left the business without paying for an estimated $15 worth of merchandise. The suspect left the area in a black Jeep Grand Cherokee style vehicle with a broken rear window. The public is encouraged to contact Alaska State Troopers dispatch at 352-5401 or Crime Stoppers.

    Type: Death Investigation - Natural

    Dispatch Text:

    On August 12, 2018 AST dispatch received a report from EMS of an unexpected death on Gantz Road in Big Lake.  EMS personnel were dispatched to the scene and continued lifesaving efforts.  At 1026 hours, David Hill age 69 of  Big Lake was declared deceased. Next of kin was on scene and notified.  The state medical examiner and Troopers determined Hill died of natural causes.   The funeral home took possession of human remains on behalf of the family.

    Type: Violate Conditions of Staking Order

    Dispatch Text:

    On 08/11/18 Alaska State Trooper dispatch received a report of assault at a Wasilla residence.  The complainant stated a male assaulted her the night before.  The suspect, CHRISTOPHER FOUST age 47 yo from Big Lake, arrived on scene during the investigation.  A check of court documents, showed C. FOUST had an active staking order not to be at the address off Pittman Road.  C. FOUST was issued a summons to appear at court and released.

    Location: Port Heiden
    Type: Arson/Vehicle theft

    Dispatch Text:

    On 8/11/2018 at approximately 2100 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a structure fire in the village of Port Heiden. Additionally, on 8/12/2018 Trooper received reports of multiple vehicle thefts in Port Heiden. Investigation revealed Daniel Christensen, age 25 of Port Heiden had stolen three vehicles and purposely started the structure fire. Christensen was contacted and admitted to taking the vehicles without permission and starting the structure fire. Christensen was subsequently arrested and remanded into the King Salmon jail for vehicle theft and arson.

    Dispatch Text:

    On 08/13/2018 at about 1324 hours, Alaska State Troopers received a report of a stolen vehicle. AST located the vehicle in Tanacross. Investigation revealed Henry Grimm, 48 YOA of Tanacross, stole the vehicle. Henry was arrested and transported to Fairbanks where he was remanded to Fairbanks Correctional Center for Vehicle Theft in the First Degree.

    Dispatch Text:

    On August 13th, 2018 at 1930 hours the Alaska State Troopers received a report that Manuela Vazquez-Feiler, 37 of North Pole was operating a vehicle while under the influence. Multiple AST units responded and located Manuela at her residence. The investigation resulted in Manuela's arrest for Driving Under the Influence. Manuela was transported to the Fairbanks Correctional Center and released shortly there after.

    Type: MIW V, MICS IV, Disorderly Conduct

    Dispatch Text:

    On August 13th, 2018 at approximately 0129 hours, the Alaska State Troopers responded to a residence on Thunder Road, Kenai for a noise complaint. Investigation revealed Matthew D. Luke, age 20 of Kenai, was in possession of heroin and a firearm. Luke failed to notify law enforcement the firearm was near his person when contacted and created a hazardous condition with his actions. Luke was arrested for MIW V, MICS IV, and Disorderly Conduct. Luke was remanded to the Wildwood Pretrial Facility where he was released on his own recognizance.

    Type: Vehicle Theft, Pursuit

    Dispatch Text:

    On 08/07/2018 at approximately 1831 hours, AST received reports of a suspicious male attempting to get inside vehicles at a business on the Kenai Spur Highway.  A short time later the same individual, Lamar Miller, of Sterling stole a vehicle from the same business. 

    Soldotna Police observed the vehicle inside the city limits and attempted to stop the vehicle.  The vehicle failed to stop.  Soldotna Police pursued the vehicle north on the sterling highway.  At approximately mile 91 mile, city limits of Soldotna, Soldotna Police terminated their pursuit. 

    AST continued and caught up with the vehicle on the Sterling Highway, continuing the pursuit.  The vehicle turned down a trail, continued a short distance and stopped.  Miller exited the vehicle and was arrested. 

    Miller was arrested and charged with, Vehicle Theft 1, DUI for suspicion of drugs, Fail to Stop at the Direction of a Peace Officer, and Reckless Driving.  Miller was remanded to Wildwood Pretrial.

    On 8-13-18 at 0930 hours the Alaska State Troopers responded to Airport Circle in Soldotna after a reported vandalism.  Investigation revealed Johnny Riddle (69 YOA of Soldotna) damaged a community wellhouse by breaking items in the well making it unusable.  The damage is estimated at over $2,000.00.  Riddle was arrested for Criminal Mischief III and Criminal Trespass I and remanded to the Wildwood Pre Trial Facility.

    On 8/9/2018, Kodiak AWT cited Brian J. Vinson, 35 yoa of Toledo, OR, for commercial fishing without a 2018 crew member license and also cited Casey Eads, 43 yoa, of Kodiak, AK for employing an unlicensed crew member.  Bail for each citation is set at $260.

    On 8/12/2018, Alaska Wildlife Trooper Ketchikan Post cited Kent Redford, 46 of Utah, for retaining an over limit of nonpelagic rockfish.  Redford was contacted sport fishing the marine waters near Pt. Stanhope.  The violation carries a $110.00 fine plus $20.00 per fish.  Redford was 3 fish over the one nonpelagic rockfish a day bag and possession limit. Bail was set at $170.00.

    On 8-11-18 Glennallen AWT contacted Bonnie Parker, age 33 of Anchorage near MacLaren Summit on the Denali Hwy.  Investigation determined that Parker had failed to leave the evidence of sex naturally attached to the caribou she had harvested.  Caribou in GMU13 was restricted to Bulls only by Emergency Order.  Parker was issued a $160 citation and released.

    Location: Seward
    Type: MVC

    Dispatch Text:

    On 8-11-18 at approximately 1648 hours AWT responded to a 2 vehicle collision on the Seward Hwy just north of Herman Leirer Rd. Jamie Campbell, age 23 of Seward was northbound on the Seward Hwy in a Dodge Ram 2500 when she stopped to avoid a dog which was in the roadway. Eric Haugh, age 22 of JBER was northbound behind Campbell in a GMC Canyon pickup which rear-ended the Dodge Ram. The GMC Canyon received likely total damage and airbags deployed. Occupants of both vehicles report wearing seatbelts and two toddlers in the Dodge Ram were properly secured in child restraint seats likely preventing injury. All occupants declined EMS at the scene. Haugh was issued a citation for failure to use due care to avoid a collision. Alcohol was not a factor in the collision.
