Interior Troopers Accept Record Breaking Donation for Area Food Bank

Fairbanks business make $7,501 donation today towards Law Enforcement Food Drive

October 30, 2020 (Fairbanks, Alaska) – During the month of October law enforcement officers across the Interior region of Alaska have been collecting more than calls to service and criminals. The 2nd annual Fairbanks Area Law Enforcement Food Drive supporting the Fairbanks Community Food Bank challenges seven law enforcement agencies to collect the most food and monetary donations during the month of October. Law enforcement professionals from the Alaska State Troopers, North Pole Police Department, Fairbanks Police Department, Fairbanks Airport Police and Fire Department, UAF Police Department, Eielson AFB Security Forces, and the Fairbanks Emergency Communication Center have raised thousands of dollars and thousands of pounds of food for Interior residents in need this month.

Today, two area businesses announced a combined $7,501 donation to the food bank on behalf of the State Troopers team, the largest donation in the drive’s two-year history. Gene’s Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram donated $5,001 and Fairbanks Nissan donated $2,500 towards the cause.

“This food drive has been a big success for the Fairbanks Community Food Bank, Alaska’s law enforcement officers really care about our community and that’s why you see such a heated competition between neighbor agencies to raise the most money for this worthy cause,” said Captain Ron Wall, Commander of the Alaska State Troopers D Detachment. “The donations of canned food and money from citizens, troopers, police officers, dispatchers, and local businesses will help keep the food bank operating through the long, cold winter ahead.”

One thing that makes this food drive important to interior law enforcement agencies, in general, is that when troopers or law enforcement officers respond to a home in the Interior and see that food is needed, they simply call the Foodbank and request a box (filled with items like eggs, milk, meat and more) be dropped off to the people in need. The food delivery is at no cost to law enforcement or the recipients of the goods. This action by the Foodbank ensures that no one goes hungry and it helps Troopers and police officer go beyond law enforcement actions to support the people they serve.

The donation drive ends at 9am on Monday, November 2, 2020 anyone can make a donation to the Fairbanks Community Food Bank online at: https://www.fooddriveonline.org/fairbanksfoodbank/index.php?c=57e276a551
