Public Safety Academy Graduates 19 New Law Enforcement Officers

ALET Session 23-02 includes nine Alaska State and Alaska Wildlife Troopers, 

as well as 10 recruits from nine city and state agencies 

November 17, 2023 (Sitka, AK)— In a graduation ceremony in Sitka, 19 new law enforcement officers received their badges. The ceremony was closed to the public, but anyone who is interested can watch a 
video recording on the Alaska State Troopers Facebook page

“I commend the new law enforcement officers who have successfully completed the Alaska Law Enforcement Academy,” said Governor Mike Dunleavy. “I appreciate your dedication to serving and safeguarding Alaskans throughout the state, and for the positive impact your service will have on future generations of Alaskans.” 

Graduating recruits completed more than 1,000 hours of training over the course of 17 weeks of basic 
Alaska Law Enforcement Training. Schooling included intensive instruction in law enforcement-related 
topics, physical fitness, and many scenario-based exercises designed to prepare entry-level police officers and Troopers for successful careers in Alaska law enforcement. 

Department of Public Safety Commissioner James Cockrell expressed his confidence in the new officers who completed the Alaska Law Enforcement Training Academy. He said, “They have received top-notch training that will prepare them for the challenges and opportunities of serving and protecting Alaskans. Their presence will enhance the safety and security of our state.”

  • Officer Anthony Bates, Juneau Police Department 
  • Trooper Ryan Bell, Alaska State Troopers 
  • Officer Benjamin Bennett, Anchorage International Airport Police and Fire Department 
  • Officer Bradley Bordner, Homer Police Department 
  • Trooper Dylan Bowers, Alaska State Troopers 
  • Trooper Colleen Bryant, Alaska State Troopers  
  • Trooper Jason Cantor, Alaska State Troopers 
  • Officer Kenneth Fahle, Anchorage International Airport Police  and Fire Department 
  • Officer Nicholas Irvin, Fairbanks Police Department 
  • Officer Jaxon Letendre, Wasilla Police Department 
  • Officer Tyler Nicholson, North Pole Police Department 
  • Trooper Juan Olson Guzman, Alaska Wildlife Troopers 
  • Officer Andrew Reynolds, Valdez Police Department 
  • Officer Kenneth Scott, Anchorage International Airport Police  and Fire Department 
  • Trooper Alan Urban, Alaska Wildlife Troopers 
  • Trooper Joshua Whitby, Alaska Wildlife Troopers 

 
Trooper recruits will soon arrive at their first duty assignments in either Fairbanks, Soldotna, or the Mat-Su Valley, and begin a 12-week Field Training and Evaluation Program. All Trooper recruits are expected to develop to the point of being able to perform all law enforcement functions independently. If successful, the Trooper recruits will be promoted to the rank of Trooper upon completion of their probationary period, generally 12 months from the start of the academy. 

**Lateral recruits attended an abbreviated eight-week academy.
