August 2019 SDEU K-9 Drug Statistics

SDEU K9s work on AST cases, but also assist other law enforcement agencies across the state in identifying illicit substances. Expanding their use and increasing the number of drug detection K9s are key items on the Public Safety Action Plan. These numbers represent the total amount of substances seized by SDEU K9s across Alaska.

2017 K9 Drug Seizure Statistics

The 2017 Annual Drug Report, highlighting trends and major drug seizures is now available. SDEU K9 teams were very busy last year: they were directly involved in 89 felony and 23 misdemeanor arrests,  as well as the seizure of 7,824 grams of heroin, 4,757 grams of cocaine, 17,766 grams of methamphetamine, and $330,918.00 cash from drug proceeds.
 

Spotlight on K9 Koda - DOC

K9 “Koda” is a 3-year-old male German Shepherd that as part of his duties conducts routine searches throughout the Department of Corrections including correctional institutions and probation/pretrial offenders who may have drug conditions of release.  While “Koda” works to ensure safe facilities and a rehabilitative environment, he also assists neighboring agencies in preventing controlled substances from making their way to DOC facilities. Since his initial Certification and graduation of the Alaska State Troopers Detector K9 Academy on May 26, 2017, K9 Koda is responsible for the seizure/forfeiture of: 5,573.28 grams of Methamphetamine, 3,491.83 grams of Cocaine,  4,000.88 grams of Heroin, $235,489.00 of US Currency and over a hundred hypodermic needles.
