November 2018 SDEU K-9 Drug Statistics
SDEU K9s work on AST cases, but also assist other law enforcement agencies across the state in identifying illicit substances. Expanding their use and increasing the number of drug detection K9s are key items on the Public Safety Action Plan. These numbers represent the total amount of substances seized by SDEU K9s across Alaska.

2017 K9 Drug Seizure Statistics
The 2017 Annual Drug Report, highlighting trends and major drug seizures is now available. SDEU K9 teams were very busy last year: they were directly involved in 89 felony and 23 misdemeanor arrests, as well as the seizure of 7,824 grams of heroin, 4,757 grams of cocaine, 17,766 grams of methamphetamine, and $330,918.00 cash from drug proceeds.
Spotlight on K9 Duncan
K9 Duncan was a 13-year-old German Shepherd who began his service with AST in July 2007 as a scent detection K9 certified in marijuana, methamphetamine, heroin, and cocaine. Before he was retired on April 1, 2016, Duncan was responsible for the seizure of 34,317 grams of methamphetamine, 8,693 grams of heroin, 38,465 grams of cocaine, $1,376,710 U.S. dollars cash and 100 felony arrests.
