July 2018 SDEU K-9 Drug Statistics

SDEU K9s work on AST cases, but also assist other law enforcement agencies across the state in identifying illicit substances. Expanding their use and increasing the number of drug detection K9s are key items on the Public Safety Action Plan. These numbers represent the total amount of substances seized by SDEU K9s across Alaska.

Spotlight on Bolt

K9 Bolt is from the North Slope Borough Police Department, and works as a member of the Anchorage Airport Interdiction Team (AAIT). July was a busy month for Bolt. Over the course of two days, he led AAIT to suspicious luggage and people traveling through the Anchorage International Airport. As a result, $105,098 in suspected cash drug proceeds were seized. Earlier in the month, Bolt was instrumental in obtaining a search warrant for a suspicious vehicle. After serving the warrants, officers seized approximately 33 pounds (529.5 ounces, or 150,110 individual user doses) of methamphetamine., and over $8,000 in U.S. currency, along with evidence of drug distribution. The Anchorage street value of the drugs was $423,600.
