2017 K9 Drug Seizure Statistics

The 2017 Annual Drug Report, highlighting trends and major drug seizures is now available. SDEU K9 teams were very busy last year: they were directly involved in 89 felony and 23 misdemeanor arrests,  as well as the seizure of 7,824 grams of heroin, 4,757 grams of cocaine, 17,766 grams of methamphetamine, and $330,918.00 cash from drug proceeds.

Spotlight on K9 Naja

K9 Naja has been busy the last month; she’s responsible for all of the meth seizures in February. Naja came onboard earlier this year as the result of a partnership with the Tanana Chief’s Conference. Members of TCC from the Fairbanks region raised over $50,000 to purchase, train and transport Naja to Alaska, and donated her to AST. She’s based in the Fairbanks region, and in addition to doing drug interdiction work, she will also be making village and community visits throughout the region. Another great example of the amazing statewide partnerships to help stop illicit drug trafficking.
