LANGUAGE ACCESS

It is the policy of the Council of Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault to provide equal access to its statewide services for all victims of domestic violence and sexual assault regardless of spoken language consistent with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, as it affects persons with limited English proficiency.

We have 28 beds and serve participants from throughout the North Slope.

Through meetings and events we discuss issues and support each other in building a healthy masculinity that protects everyone from violence. We also develop a training for male mentors of young men. The training uses previous strategies such as Compass: A Guide for Men, that was developed by the Alaska Network on Domestic Violence and Sexual Assault, as well as other evidence based programs and evidence informed strategies.

Fairbanks, AK, 99701 The ABC-Batterer's Intervention Program will be using three curriculums. For men in the community, and that who are incarcerated, we are using the Emotionally Intelligent Batterers Intervention manual. We are using Beyond Violence for women that are incarcerated and Beyond Anger and Violence for women in the community that may be in shelters or treatment settings. All of these Curriculums have a strong emphasis on trauma recovery and self-esteem which helps participants override harmful thinking patterns while healing old wounds.

In the course, you can expect to learn about violence against women, interact with other men, and do exercises that deepen the understanding of domestic violence. Participants are expected to examine beliefs, attitudes and actions around the issues of abuse, violence, gender, race, class, and traditional male/female roles.

Services include mental health screening, housing assistance and transportation services. We also collaborate with Tribal Court on short-term and long-term protective orders for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, dating violence or stalking.

Program goals include stopping violence, and confronting denial, victim-blaming, and minimization while providing psychoeducation and teaching healthy boundaries.

The program goals include taking the blame off the victim and placing the accountability for abuse on the offender. This program has ongoing discussions between criminal and civil justice agencies, community members and victims to close gaps and improve the community’s response to battering and offers change opportunities for offenders through court-ordered educational groups for batterers.
