We currently have a $20,000 bonus for all newly hired Troopers. The first part of the bonus is paid at $10k after graduation from their initial training (ALET academy or Lateral academy). The second part of the bonus is paid again at $10k once the new Trooper is released from probation at the one year mark and recieves their APSC certification. Current State of Alaska employees in the Public Safety Bargaining Unit are not eligible for this incentive.
After successfully completing the 18 week DPS Training Academy, Alaska State and Wildlife Trooper Recruits will be provided paid administrative time (five days) to travel home, move themselves to Alaska, then submit receipts of their expenses for reimbursement up to $10,000. For guidance on what is covered, see the Alaska Administrative Manual AAM 60.350.
In many locations, the state provides subsidized state housing for troopers assigned to that area.
Take Home Car
All troopers who successfully complete their field training, will be provided a take home patrol vehicle for use during working hours. Troopers may also use their assigned patrol vehicle for personal use subject to some restrictions.
